Grange Fell Cottage is thoughtfully and beautifully equipped and presented with three bedrooms and two bathrooms plus an extra ground floor WC / wash basin, so never any queuing! The cosy lounge is a place to relax in by the warming wood burner and the kitchen / dining has all you may need. ==Almost every room has a picture window admiring the Borrowdale fells and here you have some of the Lake District's finest walks on your doorstep including Catbells and Castle Crag. A couple of cafes are on your doorstep too and within a short walk are very good eateries and bars. Bustling Keswick is five minutes' drive, brimming with shops, restaurants, cinema, theatre and more. Whether you are looking for a great and convenient holiday for the family or a gathering of friends, this beautiful cottage provides an excellent base to set you in good stead for a memorable holiday. Accommodation in detail Park right outside your cottage and there are two entrance porches but we will bring you in the nearest to the kitchen. Entrance hallway with cloakroom, being the 3rd WC / wash basin in the cottage. On the ground level is the cosy lounge with superb outlook over the village green towards the surrounding mountains, relaxing furnishings by the wood burning stove, the cottage has all sorts of extras including Wainwright's walking books and DVDs to put you in the mood. The kitchen is very well stocked and a great place to dine late into the evening with good food, even better wine and great conversation! Upstairs and on the first floor is a double bedroom with en-suite shower room, a twin bedroom and the family bathroom with shower over the bath. The views on the first floor get better but the top eves bedroom, which is also a twin bedroom, has glorious views in every direction. Outside there is a secure place for bikes etc and a patio / garden area with outside furniture, ideal for al fresco living on sunny days. Location Grange Fell Cottage is located in the picturesque hamlet of Grange in Borrowdale, a very short distance from Derwentwater, one of the principal lakes in the Lake District National Park, and at the entrance to the Jaws of Borrowdale, the narrow area between the Jaws of Castle Crag and Grange Fell. This small gathering of cottages, a church and two cafes is reached via a famous double-humped bridge over the River Derwent, the beautiful outlet of Derwentwater itself. 'Grange' means 'outlying farm belonging to a monastery', and indeed Grange's history dates back to medieval times when the monks of Furness Abbey owned the land here. The cottage is situated in the heart of the original Grange, where a barn, cottages and a farm surround three sides of the village square. Holy Trinity Church, with its bell tower, was built in 1861 (visible from the kitchen window), and a Methodist Church followed in 1878. The hamlet has grown little since then, and remains a cluster of cottages, several farms and two tea shops. Grange Fell cottage is conveniently placed in between the latter, so you are spoilt for choice of food! Grange Fell Cottage is named after Grange Fell, the mountain the far side of the River Derwent overlooking Grange. (Lake District Mountains are called fells.) Grange Fell has three peaks: Kings How, Grund Fell and Ether Knott. When King Edward VII died in 1910, his sister Louise bought Grange Fell and placed a memorial stone to him just below the summit of King's How.
