Location Candy Cottage is in the main lakeside town of Bowness on Windermere. Convenient for local amenities and access to the fantastic cruising grounds of Lake Windermere as well as the surrounding National Park by foot or car. On the eastern shores of Lake Windermere, Bowness is a sophisticated Lakeland village with a wealth to explore and enjoy. Stroll to the lake shore in Bowness to hire a row boat or power boat, or take an elegant cruise on one of the Lake Windermere steamers. Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly to Ambleside and Lakeside; a wonderful way to explore without even using your car. There are several excellent restaurants in Bowness village, also close by are many Michelin star for stylish dining, while the Porthole and Bodegas & Sol puts a contemporary twist on the tapas style. There are also plenty of traditional Lakeland pubs, both in the village centre and the surrounding countryside. Enjoy one of the two fantastic south facing terraces on those lazy summer days, spend a few hours in the bar or book a table in the first floor restaurant for something a little more special or of course enjoy the comfort of your own accommodation. Windermere Golf Club is just outside Bowness village, on the way to the Lyth Valley. This area is also renowned for gentle but very scenic walking, with a wealth of acclaimed Lake District country pubs to choose from at the end of the day. Close to the village, you'll find Blackwell, The Arts and Crafts House. This impressive property takes a stunning position overlooking Lake Windermere, and has a range of interesting exhibitions. Join the A591 to Ambleside and Grasmere, and you can explore the homes of famous Lake District poet, William Wordsworth. Another great idea is to take the car-ferry crossing, just a couple of hundred yards from your doorstep, over Lake Windermere from Bowness, to visit the former home of Beatrix Potter in Near Sawrey, and the picturesque village of Hawkshead.
