“Having read previous reviews, we were aware that you have to bring your own wood/logs etc to use the open fire but would be a good idea to make this clear when advertising the property to avoid disappointment.”

The house was a real home from home with excellent beds and enough space for our family. One point to note is that whilst the wooden floors are lovely, it was very slippy under four in the hall area and one of our party (a pregnant lady) nearly suffered a fall as she slid along the floor. Possibly a notice to caution guests would ensure extra care is taken when entering. Would definitely look to book in the future.

The property

Hidden from the hustle and bustle of Bowness, step through the gates at Silver Howe and you discover a beautiful home nestled into a rocky outcrop surrounded by mature trees, offering a unique property that makes this the ideal holiday cottage for both family and friends. This architect designed Lakeland home has been created to be as social as possible with a large lounge that opens directly onto the veranda and garden, a large well planned kitchen and spacious conservatory dining room. With three bedrooms to choose from including two with ensuite bathrooms, an impressive hallway with oak staircase, a choice of patios, mature gardens and private parking for two cars, this impressive property is ideally suited to form happy holiday memories for years to come. Silver Howe is discreetly tucked away and ideally situated between Windermere town and Bowness which is just a few minutes walk away. It is the ideal base from which to enjoy all the Lake District has to offer from walking and mountain biking, canoeing and sailing and also a wealth of other attractions from the fine arts and crafts of Blackwell to the firm family favourite of the World of Beatrix Potter and of course local pubs, excellent restaurants, charming tea shops and contemporary coffee bars.==== Accommodation in detail A short driveway leads to the ornate gates that open to the grounds of Silver Howe and immediately this striking detached house offers an impressive welcome. The front door opens to a grand hallway with double doors leading to the spacious sitting room with oak floors, comfortable sofas arranged around the feature fireplace with open fire, a large screen TV and a family dining table. Two sets of French doors open to the veranda and the garden beyond. Once again, double doors open to the large kitchen with fitted units, range cooker with five ring gas hob and electric oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and family breakfast table. A secluded outdoor seating area is accessed directly from French doors in the kitchen. Beyond the kitchen, the spacious conservatory also offers an alternative for relaxed family dining with French doors leading to a patio which overlooks the drive and the garden. A beautiful oak staircase climbs to the first floor landing and study area. Choose from three bedrooms; the spacious triple aspect master bedroom is finished with a king-size bed and complemented with a luxurious ensuite bathroom with feature roll top bath, shower cubicle, and WC. The two further bedrooms comprise of a king size room with ensuite bath with shower over and WC, and a double room with ensuite WC. A further family shower room with WC is located on the ground floor. A particular feature at the rear of Silver Howe is the impressive rock formation and to the side a delightful wooded garden with mature shrubs and trees, complete with garden terrace ideal for outdoor dining. With a choice of patios, you'll always find the ideal spot to relax over a glass of wine in the evening or a coffee and the morning papers! Due to the rocky nature of parts of the garden, and the dangers they may present to adventurous children, parents are advised to remain vigilant. Location On the eastern shores of Lake Windermere, Bowness is a sophisticated Lakeland village with so much to explore and enjoy. Within minutes from Silver Howe you can be enjoying walks with magnificent views such as to Biskey Howe, Brant Fell and School Knott. Stroll to the lake shore to hire a rowboat or power boat, or take an elegant cruise on one of the Lake Windermere steamers. Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly to Ambleside and Lakeside; a wonderful way to explore without even using your car. There are many excellent restaurants in Bowness and Windermere, all within walking distance of Silver Howe, including champagne bars, contemporary wine bars and traditional pubs offering a range of great British and international cuisine. There is something for everyone, both in the village centre and the surrounding countryside. Windermere Golf Club is just outside Bowness village, on the way to the Lyth Valley. This area is also renowned for gentle but very scenic walking, with a wealth of acclaimed Lake District country pubs to choose from at the end of the day. Close to the village, you'll find Blackwell, The Arts and Crafts House. This impressive property takes a stunning position overlooking Lake Windermere, and has a range of interesting exhibitions. Join the A591 to Ambleside and Grasmere, and you can explore the homes of famous Lake District poet, William Wordsworth. Another great idea is to take the car-ferry crossing over Lake Windermere from Bowness, to visit the former home of Beatrix Potter in Near Sawrey, and the nearby picturesque village of Hawkshead.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
