    - Mrs Walters,

The property

This romantic detached Lakeland cottage is steeped in history and is believed to be 400 years old. It has been fully re-furbished to provide every convenience and comfort expected from a Four Star property. It is located away from the main roads and offers a rare opportunity for quiet retreat. There is direct access onto the fell path leading onto Todd Crag and beyond. The cottage is only a short stroll from Ambleside and if it were your wish you could park and not use your car again following your arrival. Buses to Ambleside, Coniston and Langdale stop nearby. This is a unique property with fabulous opportunities. Accommodation in detail You have the benefit of private parking outside the front door. Access is from the garden with patio furniture into the lounge with slate floor. This lounge with dining area boasts an enormous amount of natural light. The half glazed 'stable door' to the garden and the half glazed rear courtyard door add to the spacious feeling. The rear courtyard has slate flooring recovered from the original residence and provides a very private and sunny place to relax. The secure store is ideal for bicycles. A short flight of steps leads to the mezzanine kitchen with views over the garden and towards Lake Windermere. The kitchen is fully equipped. A tall bistro table and chairs are perfect for two to enjoy a glass of wine whilst watching the TV. A further short flight of stairs leads to the bedroom with king size bed. This convenient room has lots of natural light. En-suite bathroom. Location Clappersgate is a small but central Lake District village, straddling the banks of the River Rothay and only a short distance from Ambleside. It's an excellent self-catering base - peaceful and picturesque, yet convenient for Ambleside, Lake Windermere, the Langdale Valley and close to the main routes through the Lakes. Ambleside is the closest main village to Clappersgate, so the easiest place to stock up the kitchen. There you'll also find an array of interesting shops, eateries, Lakeland pubs and high-class restaurants. Steamers depart from Waterhead Pier, to ferry you the full length of Lake Windermere. It's the perfect Lake District community to have nearby.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Windermere 4 miles; Grasmere 4 mile; Keswick 15 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
