“Very comfortable.”

It's a farm cottage so don't expect streetlights & WiFi streaming. Upside-down layout takes a little getting used but permits a splendid view. Walking access to Howgills & limestone plateau.

“This was a lovely cottage in a beautiful location.”

It was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our weeks holiday. It was very relaxing to sit outside on an evening watching the bats and listening to the sheep. A great base location for exploring the surrounding areas, with lots to do. The children enjoyed the play area too.

“The cottage was spotlessly clean and cosy warm.”

The bed was large and comfy. The lounge which was upstairs had 2 lovely, comfy sofas in. There were views from the juliette balcony to the distant hills over the fields with sheep in and the farmyard where the cows were kept. Walking straight from the cottage was excellent, no need to use the car. The only thing and maybe its because we are light sleepers was the sound of a motor droning on and off during the night. Whether it was the fridge or freezer with them being directly above the bedroom on wooden flooring I dont know but that did keep us awake quite a bit. The kitchen had nearly everything except no ovengloves and only 1 teatowel/towel. No salt and pepper, tin foil or other little essentials but that could be down to being very careful about covid. There was no recycling facilites so we actually fetched ours home. The information book provided gives details of emergency numbers, which we had to use but the doctors number was a dentist number. We had to visit Penrith hospital which was excellent as the doctors surgery in Kirkby Stephen were not helpful at all. Parking was directly out of the door so loading and unloading was very handy. We would hope to go back soon.

Easy access to keys and very friendly owners. Great location for access to eastern lakes and Yorkshire dales. Access to car parking at rear is very tight for a bigger car but plenty of parking at the front.

“Dianne and Mike were amazing and really helped us out at super short notice of about 2 hours as we were stuck in a water logged tent, we really landed on our feet and the cottage was even better than the pictures show, there is literally everything you could ever need and the cost was super reasonable.”

The location was perfect and we had lots of lovely walks in the surrounding area. Looking forward to coming back soon to this little gem!

The owners tastefully decorated the cottage for our arrival - a lovely touch along with the complimentary milk/coffee etc This accommodation was clean, well equipped with lovely countryside views. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have slept in! We had some amazing walks direct from the doorstep as well as interesting trips out in the car. “Hayloft cottage is in a lovely area of the Lakes/Yorkshire Dales.”

The cottage was clean and cosy for what we needed it for (which was just sleeping as we were meeting up with family in Ravenstonedale) We ate at the Black Swan which is a gastro pub, the food was very good but not cheap. The cottage has everything you would need for a comfortable stay but it is dated. The entrance to the cottages is a tight turn which was made more difficult by people parking outside the opening. Once you get into the entrance it's another tight turn to get into the parking area of the cottage. Which is big enough for 4 cars. There is a small children's play area which we didn't use. The price was ok for the time of year (Christmas)

Lovely cottage, gorgeous scenery, fresh air, country smells and the sounds of the lowing and bleating of animals made a welcome change. The cottage itself was warm, clean and very comfortable. I am sure that it won't be long before we return to this idyllic location.

In a quiet, rural location just a mile from the Cumbrian village of Newbiggin-on-Lune, in the heart of the Howgills, these three Lake District cottages are located on a family-run farm in tranquil and relaxing surrounds. These delightful Grade II listed Newbiggin-on-Lune cottages have been carefully created from old farm buildings, and each has been comfortably furnished and decorated, retaining character and charm, including original features, oak beams and exposed stonework. Featuring upside down accommodation, the cottages have open plan living areas on the first floor to take advantage of the lovely views of the surrounding countryside. Positioned in spacious grounds, each of these Lake District self-catering cottages has outdoor seating and enjoys shared use of all the lawned and terraced areas, including a fabulous children’s play area. NEWBIGGIN-ON-LUNE

Kirkby Stephen 6 miles; Sedbergh 12 miles.

The tranquil village of Newbiggin-on-Lune lies at the foot of the Howgill Fells, quietly sitting between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. It is a delightful rural village with a thriving local community and many traditional old dwellings. Hill farming is the principal means of income in the area and an agricultural show is still held once a year on the fells, echoing the markets and shows of days gone by. The local river, the Lune for which the village was named, is very popular for trout fishing. Nearby Ravenstonedale, once described by Wainwright as one of Westmorland’s loveliest villages, boasts three pubs, all serving fine ales and modern cuisine. The area offers many walking and cycling routes, both on and off road, whilst the nearby attractions provide something for everybody.
