“After getting Todd Crag last minute due due to a double booking error by a 3rd party agent.”

We picked Todd Crag after looking at reviews & that it had all we required in terms of facilities. The property was clean & warm on our arrival which was particularly welcome after our stressful 24 hours. Our initial reaction was wow at the entrance hall ( after a chuckle at the quirky back door ) a quick inspection found a property furnished in keeping with the age of the house , the sofa were very comfy to chill out on. The bedroom comfy kingsize bed , with clean adequate storage for a holiday. The many side lamps fitted around the property gave a lovely ambiance when on( I personally dislike overhead lighting & rarely use it ). The large kitchen was lovely & enough of everything to cook quick meals in the evening with the dishwasher meaning we didnt have a ton of washing up. Bathroom & shower all good, with lovely fluffy towels provided. We didn't need the washer & dryer but appreciated they were there. So all in all a wonderful week, with walks straight from the door meaning we didn't use the car for 4 days. The driveway is very steep & there's not much visibility to pull out but as there is so many walks from the door it was a very minor inconvenience. You are on the main road from Ambleside however the secondary glazing reduces the noise & we weren't disturbed overnight. Yes there is a property above us which was occupied by the owners for the last couple of days of our break we rarely heard any noise & then only very occasional light footsteps which did not disturb us in any way . All in all a fabulous property , which we will be returning to .

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
