The location is beautiful with great walking and biking from the door. So so lovely, we didn’t want to leave.

The property

Standing at the head of the Kentmere Valley, surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District, Kentmere Hall is built around a defensive pele tower dating back to the early 14th century. Over the centuries, Kentmere Hall grew into one of the largest farms in the Lake District and the adjacent Bank Barn is the most modern addition, being built in the 1750’s. Recently refurbished by the current owners, this superb property offers a homely retreat in one of the most beautiful settings in the area. All the accommodation is on the ground floor and presented to a very high standard, with open plan kitchen/dining/living room, a choice of three bedrooms, including one with an en suite bathroom, and a family shower room. The owners’ attention to detail is evident throughout and all the furniture has been carefully chosen to create a wonderful and welcoming setting. With a myriad of walks and mountain bike routes direct from the doors, views across the woods and meadows, which abound with wildlife, plenty of space outdoors and its tranquil location, Kentmere Hall Bank Barn is the ideal place to relax and unwind. Local amenities can be found just a ten-minute drive down the valley in the pretty village of Staveley and ten minutes further on in the popular towns of Windermere and Kendal and there is easy access to the rest of the Lake District. The house is heated by hydropower and ground source heat pumps, with a gas system as back up. Kentmere Hall Bank Barn adjoins Kentmere Hall. Kentmere Hall won a RIBA North West Award 2021 and a RIBA National Award 2021, see below: https://www.architecture.com/awards-and-competitions-landing-page/awards/riba-regional-awards/riba-north-west-award-winners/2021/pele-tower-house Accommodation in detail Guests arrive in Kentmere along the lane that winds its way up to the head of the valley and the village of Kentmere with its historic church and whitewashed cottages scattered across the hillside. The final approach is down a narrow drive which leads to the house, where guests can pull up right outside the front door. The front door opens to the welcoming open plan kitchen, dining/living room with wonderful beams and slate floors. Comfortable sofas and armchairs are arranged around the cosy log burner and TV. (No live TV available due to reception. However viewing through the internet is fine, iplayer, ITV player, Channel 4 etc or your own Netflix and Amazon TV). The family dining table sits at the heart of the room making it the ideal place for relaxing dinners with family and friends or the place to gather in the morning over breakfast to plan the activities for the day. The contemporary fitted kitchen, with beautiful granite worktops, is well equipped with electric hob and oven, dishwasher and under-counter fridge and freezer, microwave and an excellent inventory of crockery and kitchenware. Three bedrooms lead off the living accommodation, all with sliding doors to maximise the use of space and light. With a choice of a double room with en suite bathroom, a double or 2’6” twin bedroom (please specify your choice when you make your booking) or a 3’ twin bedded room, these pretty bedrooms, all with views to the surrounding countryside, are a welcoming retreat at the end of the day. A spacious shower room benefits from a walk-in shower, basin and WC. The utility/boot room has plenty of space for boots, coats and hanging space for clothes, including drying, and is also home to the washing machine and tumble drier and a back door from here opens to the great outdoors and a gravelled area with outdoor dining furniture. Private parking is available for three cars. Location The Kentmere Valley is a narrow valley surrounded by a horseshoe of high fells, located to the east of Lake Windermere. The scenery is breath-taking, the atmosphere blissfully tranquil and the location within surprisingly easy reach of Lake Windermere and other highlights of the Lake District. But when popular Lakes holiday destinations are teeming at bank holidays and school holidays, the Kentmere Valley remains relatively untouched. The Kentmere Valley is approached via a small country lane from the village of Staveley. Staveley is a pretty little village between Kendal and Windermere; a popular hub for walkers and cyclists hence the excellent walkers' cafe. There is a famous brewery in Staveley - the Hawkshead Brewery - where you can enjoy a local pint in the beer hall. Staveley's Eagle & Child pub is also a must during your stay. The Kentmere Valley is a popular location for a Lake District walking holiday, and you'll find many varied routes to enjoy from your doorstep. Mountain bikers and rock climbers find their high points too!

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
