“We thought the cottage was of a very high standard with all the facilities you could want for.”

It is obvious the owners have given a great deal of thought as to what makes a first class holiday home. A real home from home which was very welcoming from the moment you arrived. The welcome hamper and fresh eggs were a nice touch. The location of the cottage is great surrounded by wonderful scenery and with numerous tourist places to visit close by. We would thoroughly recommend the property to anyone visiting the Lake District and am sure we will be looking to stay at the cottage again in ...

The property

Quintessential Lakeland on the outside, chic and luxurious within, this converted barn in the Lyth Valley has been refurbished with undeniable contemporary flair. You'll never forget the character of the place, with its old oak beams, vaulted ceilings and traditional gas fire log effect stove to complete the cosy country lifestyle. But the owners have ensured you'll feel a little special too; sumptuous furnishings, style fit for a glossy magazine. Even two couples will relish their breathing space; the two king-sized bedrooms are on separate floors with luxurious en-suite bathrooms. Nestled alongside a whitewashed farmhouse in the Lyth Valley, which has recently been included by Lonely Planet' Beautiful World List list of the “most beautiful places on earth”, Durham Bridge Barn is approached via private lane, Durham Bridge Barn remains only 20 minutes away from Lake Windermere and Bowness and a similar distance from the renowned “foodie” destination of Cartmel home to the famous Sticky Toffee Pudding and the acclaimed and Michelin award winning L'Enclume which, in 2016, was named as Britain's Best Restaurant for the fourth year in a row. The nearest pub is the Black Labrador at Underbarrow, which is 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive from the cottage. == Accommodation in detail A private drive leads past the adjacent farmhouse to the barn, then an oak door to the slated entrance hall with cloakroom and 3rd WC. The lounge is arranged perfectly for sociable times, with windows making the most of the scenery and sinking sofas around the stone-set log effect stove. Two comfy arm chairs offer a lovely spot to sit, read and enjoy the views. An opening leads to the sky-lit dining room and glossy well-appointed kitchen and dining area with plenty of space for entertaining in style. Find one of the king-size bedrooms on the ground floor, with luxury en-suite bathroom. From the inner hallway the stairs lead to the the first floor and the 2nd king-size bedroom, with stunning vaulted beams, dressing room and luxury en-suite bathroom. Outside there is ample parking for two cars, a lovely patio making the ideal spot for a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Location This fabulous self-catering property in the Lyth Valley takes you away from busier Lake District holiday locations, and into a divine rural landscape all of your own that has been included by Lonely Planet list of “the most beautiful places on earth”. The Lyth Valley lies behind Cartmel Fell to the east of Lake Windermere. The valley is known for its serene agricultural landscapes, its vibrant damson blossom (and harvest – look out for locally made damson jam and damson gin from the valley in the local artisan food and farm shops) in spring, and its widely-acclaimed Lake District gastropubs including The Punchbowl at Crosthwaite and The Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank and Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge. The Lyth Valley with its excellent bar and restaurant are a five minute walk away. This unspoilt medieval village of Cartmel is situated in a quiet valley in one of England's most outstanding areas of natural beauty on the fringe of the Lake District National Park is only a fifteen minute drive from Durham Bridge Barn. Offering stunning views of the South Lakeland District fells and countryside, Cartmel has grown up around its famous 12th Century medieval Priory Church. It is a special place where ancient history and tradition mingle effortlessly with the present day. Although steeped in history, Cartmel is not trapped in time and the village offers today's visitors many modern surprises in the form of fine quality attractions, shops, a wide variety of traditional Lakeland inns and cutting edge gourmet restaurants including the internationally acclaimed Michelin Star restaurant, L'Enclume. Around the village square you will discover a delightful assortment of genuine 16th - 18th century buildings. All this and the famous Cartmel racecourse providing national hunt racing in its most original format is just off the centre of the village square. With its party crowds and funfair, Cartmel rekindles the social gathering tradition of the original steeple to steeple chases. A picture postcard sleepy village so close to the southern tip of Lake Windermere with everything you could wish for.
