“Great Location!”

Near the town and all amenities as well as being able to do many walks straight from the property. Loads of wildlife including red squirrels & a badger that loved our marmite sandwiches that we put out every night. The property lacks natural daylight in the Kitchen and felt damp in the downstairs bedroom & lounge.and looked unloved from the exterior. All rooms lacked privacy as overlooked by neighbours and those viewing the property opposite. The garden is a good size but lacked anywhere to ...

All rooms lacked privacy as overlooked by neighbours and those viewing the property opposite. The garden is a good size but lacked anywhere to sit and enjoy an alfresco meal, apart from a narrow gravelled pathway which had outdoor seats but no table. The picnic bench had seen better days! Overall a great stay in a great location but room for improvement within the property itself.

“A magnificent property which felt very much a home from home.”

The kitchen is incredibly well equipped- I would have been quite happy to spend a day in it baking had the lure of the outside not been so great! The views are sublime and the creatures who frequent the superbly maintained grounds are breathtaking. It was a privilege to have stayed in such a loved property; I guarantee that you will have an unforgettable experience if you stay at Kelbarrow!

“Fabulous location, easy walking distance to Grasmere but so very quiet with beautiful views.”

It was very clean, light and airy, the large rooms made it feel very grand. The couch and bed were very comfortable, the only thing for us was that the couch was a bit low down! The garden is teaming with nature, badgers, squirrels, woodpecker, Jays, deer there’s always something to see! Personally, I would add feeding/watering stations for the wildlife and some outdoor lights - in the dark we couldn’t see what might have been there!!

“The cottage was on the whole comfortable and the location was amazing with beautiful views from the lounge and master bedroom, of the lake, the woods and the wildlife (deer, red squirrels etc).”

Sadly for us however there were a few issues : the listing had said there was use of a garage (important for us as we have mountain bikes to store) and this was no longer available when we arrived so we had to store our bikes in the small drying room, meaning we couldn’t use the tumble drier. The heavy rain we experienced caused a blocked gutter to overflow making a thunderous noise on the skylights which also leaked, leaving leaves on the floor and water bulging through the walls. The hot water was insufficient for 4 people, the oven door doesn’t stay shut, and the parking / access was extremely difficult to get through. That said, the owner was very helpful and Lakelovers / Sykes also responsive in trying to sort out problems. Overall this is a lovely property but it clearly needs some TLC and the listing to be updated.

We are pleased our maintenance team were able to come and rectify the issues you had and appreciate you reporting these to us. The parking access does need to be taken with care however we find all vans, cars etc can fit. Kelbarrow has recently had a full refurbishment and the new photos show this. “Kitchen lacked a few things like a sharp knife but otherwise it was a superb stay!”

Incredible views - overlooked by the neighbours but if you put a fence up you’d lose the view! Very tight parking and having to reverse out of a very narrow road but we do have a big car. Definitely looking to rebook

“The house was rented as having a twin bedded room but these have been replaced with a double bed.”

I specifically chose the property for the twin as my kids don’t sleep when they have to share a bed. So I didn’t have the relaxing holiday I needed. Instead I had tired grumpy children. . Also the water was scalding hot or freezing cold. You sent an engineer out to look at it really promptly and that made it better. Thank you

This lovely. recently refurbished, holiday home is part of a superbly restored Lakeland mansion in Kelbarrow, Cumbria, only a short stroll from Grasmere, with spectacular views of Grasmere from the property's entrance and master bedroom. Kelbarrow is a superb base for a family of six's stay in the Lake District National Park because it is peaceful, quiet, and the right blend of Victorian magnificence and contemporary luxury. When you arrive, you'll be greeted by a long private drive that leads to two off-road parking places. The kitchen/diner features spotless white cabinets with an assortment of integrated equipment, including an electric oven and dishwasher; an aspiring chef's paradise! Once a scrumptious meal has been cooked, enjoy it at the stylish breakfast bar. In the stylishly equipped sitting room, the warm light of the woodburning fire will warm you up, and sumptuous sofas will provide you with a place to unwind in front of the TV. From here, French doors open out to the garden, where you may take a stroll through the grounds or relax on the bench with a drink in hand. The first bedroom, a delightful double, is located on the ground floor, while the remaining bedrooms are located upstairs, one of which is a spectacular king-size with fantastic views over Grasmere, and the other is a fashionable twin. Within reach of the first-floor bedrooms is the stunning bathroom, where relaxing soaks can be relished in the bath. Return to the garden in the morning for an alfresco breakfast while taking in the breathtaking views before heading out to explore your surroundings. Grasmere is a lovely village with tea rooms, intriguing stores, and a number of art galleries showing the work of local artists (don't overlook the Heaton Cooper Studio); there's also a small supermarket, local shops, and bakeries, so you'll be well-looked-after here. The poet William Wordsworth previously resided at Grasmere, musing on the surrounding vistas and completing his most renowned work while there; his old house, Dove Cottage - the Wordsworth Museum, can be visited nearby. His tombstone may be discovered in the local church, adjacent to the famed Grasmere Gingerbread store - simply follow your nose! There are lots of options close in Grasmere village centre for dining or special events, like the Good Food Guide-listed Jumble Room and the Michelin-starred Forest Side. There are many river and lakeside walks here for those adventure seekers, and the views from Loughrigg Terrace across Grasmere are simply breathtaking; further hikes and watersports may be found at Rydal, Ambleside, and Windermere, as well. Kelbarrow is a fantastic place to visit and look back on in years to come.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
