    “We had a great time.”

Rose cottage is very secluded which we knew and loved. My only grumble is that when we arrived at 4pm and checked in all we wanted to do was unpack and put the log burner on. We looked for wood but there was none and after reading the booklet found out we had to drive to Broughton and buy some. We'd had a few drinks by this point so couldn't. We paid a LOT of money for the cottage so even wood for the first night would have done or it should be made clear when booking as we would have got ...

We paid a LOT of money for the cottage so even wood for the first night would have done or it should be made clear when booking as we would have got some on the way. Also the shower needs re-grouting as it was full of black mould on the tiles. Saying all this we loved it and would certainly go again.

The property

This enchanting 17th century Lakeland cottage has had an indulgent contemporary refurbishment, creating an oasis of luxury in a breathtaking rural setting. The sublime location has to be experienced to be appreciated; a walker's paradise of lush green valley that's still only a few miles from the villages of Broughton(3 miles) and Coniston(8 miles) . If you're looking forward to a sociable gathering - two couples, friends or family - you'll love the chic reception rooms. A crisp fitted kitchen with designer dining set, elegant living room with woodburning stove, plus a cosy snug with fireside 'love seat'. The bedrooms are just as special, the bathrooms out of a glossy magazine... it's no wonder Rose Cottage is an Enjoy England Gold Award winner. == Accommodation in detail Detached cottage with private parking for 3 cars. Traditional entrance porch and oak-floored hall, leading to the stylish fitted kitchen with contemporary dining set. Openings lead to the main living room, with luxury leather furnishings, woodburning stove and patio doors for al-fresco living. 2nd lounge with contemporary woodburner. Upstairs to the 2 bedrooms; a king-size master suite with sleigh bed, curved ceiling and luxury en-suite with designer roll top bath, and the 2nd king-size bedroom with luxury shower room (this room can be made up as a twin). Location A holiday cottage in Coniston or the surrounding areas makes a peaceful alternative to the busier tourist destinations such as Bowness and Ambleside. The scenery is breathtaking, including views over Coniston Water - the Lake District's 3rd largest lake. Many famous Lake District walking routes are located around Coniston, such as the famous Coniston Old Man the other Coniston Fells, Swirl How and Wetherlam. There a lots of boating activities available on Coniston Water itself, from row boats to sailing at Coniston Boating Centre, and also leisurely lake cruises on the Coniston Launch and Steam Yacht Gondola. Historic attractions nearby include the fabulous Brantwood - former home of John Ruskin. The impressive building overlooks Coniston Water, and is home to many arts and crafts activities and exhibitions.

About the location

BROUGHTON-IN-FURNESS

Millom 7.5 miles; Coniston 9 miles; Ulverston 9.5 miles.

Dating back to the 11th century, Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. There is much to please the visitor such as a pretty, cobbled square complete with a splendid horse chestnut tree, enclosed by shops, pubs and homes, many of them Georgian in origin. The village provides an ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday, with ample opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley and the quieter Lake District fells. Norman Nicholson, one of Britain's finest 20th century poets and William Wordsworth, both immortalised this area in their writing and poetry. The village was home to Branwell Bronte, brother of the Bronte sisters, for a short time. The Furness railway line runs from nearby Foxfield and makes for an ideal day out, travelling the west coast of Cumbria. Set amidst the charm of the Lake District and close to the sea, this attractive town makes an inspiring choice from which to further explore a magical heartland of silver lakes, lofty towering peaks and lonely, heather-clad moors.
