“Superb property for large family gathering, safety considerations for toddlers eg safety gates much appreciated.”

Set in ideal location with great views and ideal for a variety of walks, we didn’t need to use the cars once in a week. Excellent garden that we used in late afternoon to gather together after our activities. Great location for tea rooms and nearby pub. The steep drive was not an issue and we do not have 4x4s. Would definitely recommend.

“If you don't have a 4x4 please do not book this property.”

The driveway leading to the house is extremely steep and one of our vehicles would not make it up the ramp so we had to pay for a parking pass at the nearby Rydal Hall for the week. The property is very dated and needs some attention, heating is not powerful enough to reach all radiators. We found dirty oven trays in the cupboard and the previous families food in the fridge/freezer. Location is good for walks.

On arrival the storm had broken the glass table and blew down christmas tree onto other patio tables fridge door was damaged and the teapot dangerous due to no knob on lid we were advised another covid clean on day of arrival the property had not been visited after 26th November we cleared our way in through front door due too vast amount of leaves and twigs

“The property was very spacious, comfortable and well equipped.”

Having the living areas on the 1st floor gave lovely views over to Windermere. Its location beside Rydal Mount on a cup de sac track away from the main road meant no passing traffic or sound of cars. The sun terrace with lots of seating was well used even when cloudy. There were good walks straight from the door round Grassmere and Rydal Water and beyond. It was also a pleasant walk to and from Ambleside.

“Lovely location and easy access to fantastic walks.”

House brilliant for large family gatherings plus dogs. A few disappointments, mainly the microwave, far too small for a family house. Parasol broken and disappointing lack of basic cleaning supplies, especially at the moment for surfaces. Bad drain smell in first floor ensuite. Otherwise brilliant house for family stay.

Offering beautiful south facing views across the valley in the direction of Lake Windermere, this semi-detached barn conversion has been finished to a high standard and offers quality accommodation in a great location and is a very popular property for extended family gatherings and groups of friends looking to relax and socialise. The upside-down lay out of the property allows the principle living accommodation to take advantage of the best views. With a large social lounge and family dining table both taking advantage of the double sided log burning stove, a great kitchen, five bedrooms, three bathrooms, plenty of outdoor space, a terrace, ideal for alfresco dining, mountain bike storage and parking for five cars this popular cottage is great for every occasion whatever the time of year. From the cottage there is a choice of walks direct from the door being located at the start of the popular "Coffin Route" from Rydal to Grasmere that offers beautiful views to Rydal Water, Grasmere and Loughrigg Fell, for those seeking the thrills of the high fells the footpath onto Nab Scar leads to the spectacular Fairfield Horseshoe, a favourite with many Lakeland fell walker. Within the village the popular Badger Bar is a welcome retreat at the end of the day serving a range of local beers and home cooked bar meals. ==Accommodation in detail The front door opens to an inner hallway that links the four ground floor bedrooms and from here stairs climb to the first floor. The lounge offers a selection of comfortable sofas arranged around the double sided log burning stove, which is shared by the large, family dining table. Window seats offer views across the valley to Lake Windermere making this a great space to relax and socialise with family and friends. The kitchen is well appointed and well equipped with a dual fuel range cooker with five ring gas hob and electric oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and all you could need to cook up everything from a hearty breakfast or a celebration dinner. The large snug offers a great additional living space with comfy leather sofas and large screen smart TV and a handy drinks fridge! There are five bedrooms to choose from; the master bedroom is on the first floor and is presented with a king size bed, offers great views and is complemented with an en-suite bathroom with bath with shower over, basin and WC. There are four further bedrooms on the ground floor; a king size bedroom with en-suite shower room, a double room, a twin room and the final room which can be made up with either a king size or twin beds (please specify when booking). These bedrooms are complemented with a family shower room with walk in shower basin and WC and two additional cloakrooms. The utility/boot room area offers plenty of secure storage for mountain bikes, canoes and outdoor gear and is equipped with a washer and drier plus an additional freezer. Location This secluded retreat is located in an enviable position adjacent to Rydal Mount, the home of William Wordsworth until his death in 1850. AMBLESIDE

Windermere 4 miles; Grasmere 4 mile; Keswick 15 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
