The property

With views over Grasmere to the famous 'Lion & Lamb', this impressive Lakeland residence takes an elevated position only a short stroll (15 minutes) from the centre of Grasmere. Eller Close House adjoins two smaller cottages and is set within enchanting gardens. Inside you'll find sympathetically refurbished accommodation throughout ample living space. With en-suite bathrooms to every bedroom, everyone will have their own space here. Each bedroom has a charm of its own, the dining room ensures you'll make the most of time at home, and the living room - warmed by a log burning stove - promises rewarding 'downtime' after a day on the fells. == Accommodation in detail Enter Eller Close House through the gardens and two short flights of traditional stone steps lead down a path towards the entrance porch and enter into the hallway. The elegant living room leads through and has a superb splayed window, comfortable furnishings and open fire. The well-equipped kitchen / dining room follows on and has plenty of space to enjoy meals in. Head upstairs and you will find three spacious double bedrooms and one twin bedroom. All of these bedrooms feature ensuite bathrooms. Outside you find large, lovely gardens with a babbling beck running through and outdoor seating. The views are sublime looking out to the Lion & Lamb Mountain. Some areas of the garden are shared to walk through by the neighboring property. Private Parking for up to 3 cars. Location This large cottage in Grasmere is truly enviable for its scenic location. With the views beginning at home, you'll be tempted to take on such famous Lake District walks as Silver How, Lang How and Helm Crag. Rising behind the property is the impressive 'Fairfield Horseshoe' - keen walkers will be spoilt for choice. But a holiday property in Grasmere isn't just a dream for walkers. This historic Lake District village is famed for its connections with the poet William Wordsworth, who lived in the village at Dove Cottage - now owned by the National Trust and open to the public as part of the Wordsworth Museum. Artists will enjoy browsing several watercolour galleries in Grasmere, particularly the Heaton Cooper Studio which displays the Cooper family's famous work as well as that of inspired local artists. The village centre has all the facilities you'll need during your self-catering holiday at the heart of the Lakes. From local shops and supermarket to quaint tea rooms and acclaimed restaurants - the Good Food Guide-listed Jumble Room is a treat for a special occasion. Travel a short distance back along the A591, past tranquil Rydal Water, and you'll reach Ambleside on the northern shores of Lake Windermere. There you'll find a cosmopolitan village centre with a wider range of shops, cafes, cinema, acclaimed Lake District restaurants such as The Glass House, and the opportunity to take a cruise on Lake Windermere.

About the location

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
