Situated in the pretty Lakeland village of Rosthwaite, in the heart of the Borrowdale Valley, with the magnificent fells towering above the village, Yew Tree Cottage, is believed to date back to the early 19th century and makes up part of the farmstead in the heart of this pretty hamlet. This traditional Lakeland farmhouse that has been lovingly refurbished by the current owners to offer all the comforts of modern living whilst retaining the many of the historic features that this pretty cottage has to offer. With a choice of three bedrooms, a bathroom, a shower room and one bedroom with ensuite facilities, Yew Tree Cottage offer high quality and comfortable accommodation for up to ideally four people who can relax in the comfortable sitting room, with a cosy log burning stove and family dining table. A lovely cottage kitchen is well equipped and the spacious boot room is ideal as you return from a day on the hills. Although the property can sleep 5 the maximum adults is 4 due to the size of the property and parking. The Borrowdale Valley offers some of the very best walking in the Lake District with lovely walks through the valley, opportunities to reach the fells and England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike can be reached directly from the door. The popular market town of Keswick is less than a 15-minute drive from the cottage and offers a great choice of local shops, bars and restaurants. Accommodation in detail Park just outside the garden gate and step through the front door, with it’s pretty, traditional, Lakeland slate doorway and you are welcomed into the well-furnished sitting room with comfortable sofas, cosy log burning stove and Smart TV where, around the fire in an evening, you can relax with family and friends. The large family dining table sits at heart of the house and will play host to many a social dinner or hearty breakfast. Throughout the cottage, you are reminded of the historic origins of this traditional 16th century farmhouse, with low doorways, antique doors, slate floor, oak beams, exposed stonework, pretty windows but you will also be struck by how well the current owners have upgraded the cottage to offer all the comforts and convenience we expect today. Overlooking the yard and farmhouse (where, on occasion, you may catch a glimpse of a royal visitor) to the rear, the cottage kitchen is well equipped with fitted, shaker style cabinets, a feature range cooker with five ring electric hob and double oven and undercounter fridge. The adjacent boot room is home to a large freezer, dishwasher and the washer/dryer and with access from the side door it offers an alternative entrance to the cottage with plenty of space for outdoor gear, boots and coats. A traditional Lakeland staircase takes guest to the first floor and the choice of three smart, comfortable and well-furnished bedrooms. The first is presented as the master bedroom with a king size bed and small ensuite shower room, the second can be presented either with a super king bed or twin bed (please specify your choice when booking) and the third is a pretty single bedroom, ideal for a child. The bedrooms are complemented by a super family bathroom with bath with shower over, basin and WC. Back on the ground floor the owners have included a luxury shower room with large walk in shower, basin and WC. To the front of the cottage there is a very pretty cottage garden with lawns and mature borders, surrounded by traditional Lakeland drystone walls and offering wonderful views to the surrounding fells. Parking is available for two medium size cars. Up to two medium size pet dogs are welcome but guests are respectfully reminded that they should be kept under close control at all times due to the location of the cottage and neighbouring livestock. Location Yew Tree Cottage is located in the pretty village of Rosthwaite in the heart of the Borrowdale Valley just a couple of miles from the shores of Derwentwater, one of the principal lakes in the Lake District National Park. Borrowdale is a really treat for those who enjoy the great outdoors and offers walks of all standards for those of all abilities from gentle strolls to challenging mountain walks or rock climbing that is certainly not for the faint hearted! A short distance away is Keswick, one of the Lake District's most popular destinations. This friendly town hosts the very popular twice weekly market that has recently won the coveted 'Best Outdoor Market' in the Great British Market Awards. The village also offers a fantastic array of shops offering everything from craft bakeries and local produce, antiques, crafts and much, much more. If you are looking for somewhere to eat and drink, a week just won't be long enough to sample the great range of pubs, restaurants, bistros, cafes and wine bars very close to this cottage. For a great evening out why not visit the 100 year old Alhambra offering first class cinema entertainment in traditional surroundings or enjoy an evening at 'the most beautiful and friendly theatre in Britain', the 400 seat Theatre By The Lake on the shores of Derwentwater. Enjoy a cruise on Derwentwater, walk onto the fells; Cat Bells, Skiddaw, Coledale Horseshoe and Blencathra are all nearby, head underground at Honister Slate Mines, enjoy mountain biking in Whinlatter Forest. For day trips throughout the Lake District, Ullswater is a short drive away offering lake cruises, great walking and the beautiful Aira Force Waterfall. Buttermere and Crummock Water offer sublime scenery. Ashness Bridge and Surprise View situated above the Borrowdale Valley should not be missed and perhaps even a cup of tea and homemade cake in the unspoilt village of Watendlath.

You’ll be delighted with the location - just driving up the Borrowdale Valley past Lake Derwentwater is sure to please, and once you arrive in Rosthwaite you will be charmed by the traditional Lakeland cottages. Within driving distance is the town of Keswick, which boasts a number of shops and restaurants, along with miniature golf, parks, the Pencil Museum and the famous Theatre by the Lake. With Derwent Water and Honister Pass close by, the village is an ideal base for walkers and cyclists, and is in a superb location to discover all of the Lake District.
