    Both Sykes and the cottage owners were really helpful during the storm which sadly meant the area was without power for a number of days. We really appreciate their efforts to get the property ready for us as soon as possible during such a busy time.

The property

Located just a mile to the south of Coniston Village, Arrowfield House is within easy reach of the shores of Coniston Water. This beautiful, Victorian country house has been extended to combine the elegance of the original home with a smart contemporary twist with the focus being on the spacious and social layout of the property. Presented with a formal lounge with an open fire, a sitting room with TV and log burning stove, light and airy garden room with floor to ceiling windows, a dining area and large country style kitchen all complemented with a choice of three bedrooms, and a pretty garden, Arrowfield House is a wonderful property for friends or families throughout the year. There are two pubs and a small deli in Torver (5 minutes walk) and the village of Coniston is a 30 minutes walk away with a choice of popular Lakeland pubs, the village brewery and local shops. With easy access to Coniston Water, most famously associated with Donald Campbell and still used for world water speed record attempts, the Lakeland’s third largest lake is a popular draw, with a choice of activities on offer from canoeing and sailing to simply relaxing in Victorian elegance aboard SY Gondola. To the west of the village stand the imposing Coniston Fells; Coniston Old Man, Wetherlam and Swirl Howe. Paths to Coniston Old Man and Dow Crag are easily accessible just behind house. Accommodation in detail The front door opens to the elegant Victorian hallway that runs through the house. To the left is the spacious dual aspect living room with comfortable sofas arranged around the cosy open fire whilst across the hallway is the second sitting room with large screen TV and log burner. To the rear of the property the modern extension extends into the garden and offers beautiful views to the surrounding countryside. The bright and airy garden room is a lovely place to relax and where the floor to ceiling windows allow the light to flood in and patio doors open from here on to the patio and the garden. To the side the dining area is a great place to relax in an evening over a social dinner or family celebration. The large country style kitchen is well equipped with cooker/oven, dishwasher, fridge and freezer and in the centre of the room is a large farmhouse table which is the ideal place to gather over breakfast to plan your day in the Lake District. Patio doors open from the kitchen directly to the garden and the kitchen is complemented by a large pantry/food preparation room. Arrowfield House also benefits from a utility room with space for boots and out door gear and equipped with a washing machine and tumble drier. The comfortable and beautifully furnished bedrooms are spread over the first and second floor. On the first floor there are two superb kingsize bedroom, a luxurious family bathroom with feature bath and walk in shower, a smart shower room, and a work from home office room. Guests then have a choice of either a children’s bedroom with bunk beds or a lovely double room located on the top floor (please specify your choice when booking) The garden wraps around the house with well planted borders, shrubs, lawn and mature trees frame the view. A spacious patio is furnished with outdoor dining furniture and is a real treat on a summers evening. Private parking is available for three cars. Location. A Coniston holiday cottage takes you slightly away from the hustle and bustle of Bowness and Lake Windermere, to a wilder landscape full of adventure. Coniston Water is famous for its part in Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons, with Peel Island being the setting for the 'Wild Cat Island' featured in the story. The lake is also known for Donald Campbell's water speed record attempt in 'Bluebird'. But the real magic comes from the breath-taking surroundings; dramatic fells including Coniston Old Man, wild woodlands and wonderful Lake District walks. You'll have access to no end of stunning routes, from leisurely strolls to challenging ascents. You'll enjoy access to the peaceful village centre, well equipped for stocking up the kitchen with traditional butcher, artisan bakery and supermarket. There are lovely tea rooms, cafes and traditional Lakeland pubs in Coniston village, and the Black Bull Inn is well worth a visit for its award-winning brewery the Coniston Brewing Co. For a cultured day out, head to Brantwood historic house - an impressive residence overlooking the lake, once home to John Ruskin the famous artist, writer and creative thinker. You'll find a range of events on offer, such as talks, concerts, etc.

Nestling at the head of Coniston Water, the pretty village of Coniston is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District National Park, making it a superb base for touring, with Hawkshead, Ambleside, Windermere and Grasmere just a short drive away. Superb walking, mountain biking and climbing are available locally on Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam, and the lovely woodland trails at Grizedale Forest. For watersports enthusiasts, the quiet lake is ideal for dinghy sailing and canoeing, whilst the less active can enjoy a leisure cruise on the beautiful steam yacht 'Gondola’, or visit Brantwood, the former home of John Ruskin.
