The property

Just a stone's throw from William Wordsworth's Grasmere home, this enchanting little cottage provides a romantic 4 star Lake District retreat with a character all of its own. Inside the scene is set for cosy evenings in, with subtle lighting and comfy furnishings around a traditional woodburning stove. You'll also find an adorable 'sitting out spot' for pre-dinner drinks or morning coffee al-fresco. The location is also ideal; peacefully on the edge of Grasmere village with breathtaking views to the famous Lakeland Fells, yet only a stroll from tempting tearooms, handy shops, restaurants and pubs in the village centre. Poet's Corner is also only a few minutes away from the shores of Grasmere lake. == Accommodation in detail Permit parking available for 1 car. Enter to the well-equipped kitchen / dining room with antique-style shaker units, polished beechwood floor and French doors to the pretty and secluded outdoor seating area. Stairs lead up to the living room, with views to Silver Howe, woodburning stove, deep-cushioned furnishings and mood lighting. Double bedroom overlooking Dove Cottage (Wordsworth's former home) and featuring a Victorian brass bed and antique pine furniture. Bright and modern shower room. Location Only a stone's throw from William Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, this romantic Lake District self-catering property is nestled in a peaceful conservation area on the edge of Grasmere village, close to the pretty lake, but only a short stroll from shops, tea rooms and restaurants in Grasmere's village centre. It's a perfect location for a romantic break in the Lake District and also provides easy access to no end of fabulous Lake District walks. Try the route up to Easedale Tarn in the fells above the village, visit the shores of nearby Rydal Water, or take on Fairfield, Silver How or Loughrigg to name but a few! The Langdale Pikes are accessible from the Langdale Valley, only a short drive away, and up the road at Thirlmere you'll find the start point for an ascent of Helvellyn. Grasmere itself is well-served for self-catering in the Lake District, with lovely local shops and a vibrant market square. About the location

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
