“The cottage is in a fabulous location close to two great pubs serving really good food.”

The coffee shop in the Old Post Office is excellent and we can recommend their bacon ciabatta. The walks from the cottage are truly fabulous particularly towards Ambleside with absolutely stunnning views of far fells and Windermere. Others have commented on the car access and we found that the secret is to take it steady and you get used to it so after a few days it is no problem at all so it should not put you off staying here. Others have commented on the car access and we found that the secret is to take it steady and you get used to it so after a few days it is no problem at all so it should not put you off staying here. The layout of the cottage has been cleverly done to maximise the best use of space - this is particularly true in the kitchen. The quality of the fittings is really high with an extremely comfortable bed to aid recovery after a day on the fells. We had a fabulous week despite the mixed weather. A place definitely worth staying at.

The Curious Orange is quite simply a luxurious and quirky romantic bolt hole in a sublime spot. The sophisticated and seductive interior is warmed by a traditional woodburning stove, furnished for relaxation and finished with true flair. This eclectic and inspired cottage does of course have a name matching the intriguing design and finish; a pretty patio to the front with views to die for and a shared garden to the rear, the relaxing living space by the fire, a stylish designer kitchen, the romantic bedroom with separate dressing room, and the luxurious shower room with natural materials to floor and walls, monsoon shower and magical twinkling Zodiac signed coloured lighting. The slate seating outside the front door provides the ideal spot for morning coffee, or a glass or two before dinner! You are surrounded by fabulous walking territory and only 450 yards away from an excellent pub serving hearty meals and local ale, within easy reach of a well-stocked shop and never too far from the stunning shores of Lake Windermere. Perfect! == Accommodation in detail Park your vehicle at the bottom of the driveway and enter the cottage via an enclosed porch. From here you enter a living space designed for relaxation, the multicoloured furnishings are set on a slated floor with sumptuous rug by the warming woodburning stove; the designer kitchen is open to this space and has it all complete with boiling water tap! Leaving the heavily beamed downstairs up to the super king size bedroom and separate dressing room. After a day walking refresh yourself in the stunning luxury shower room under a twinkling colour-lit ceiling. Location A romantic cottage in the Troutbeck Valley provides a Lake District holiday experience like no other. Still only a short drive from shops and restaurants in Windermere village, Lake Windermere itself and the vibrant lake shore communities of Bowness and Ambleside, the Troutbeck Valley is a peaceful haven away from the rush. Spectacular Lakeland fells surround this lush valley; scattered with historic Lakeland houses and pretty woodlands, and blessed with several acclaimed Lake District country pubs. One of which is literally a healthy stone's throw from your cottage, the Mortal Man in Troutbeck village isrenowned for their excellent food, Cumbrian produce and cosy fireside ambience. Perfect for a special occasion. There are endless opportunities for romantic Lake District walks from your doorstep. Taking the car over Kirkstone Pass towards Ullswater, you'll pass Brothers Water - one of our favourite spots for a leisurely Sunday stroll. For exploring further afield, despite the blissfully secluded feel of the Troutbeck Valley, you're never too far from the main linking roads throughout the Lake District.

About the location

TROUTBECK

Windermere 3 miles; Ambleside 4 miles.

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.
