We are proud to include a large range of hand-picked dog and pet friendly Holiday Cottages, located all over the Lake District, ranging from Keswick in the North Lakes right down to Windermere in the South Lakes, in our handpicked portfolio of Lake District Cottages. In 2014 and 15 the Lake District was awarded the Kennel Club Great Outdoors award, in recognition of how dog friendly the Lake District is. In addition, the Lakeland town of Keswick was awarded ‘most dog friendly town in the UK’. So, if the Kennel Club are recommending the area then what better reason do you need to come and visit with your 4 legged friend and see for yourself.

Dog friendly accommodation in the Lake District

The Lake District really is becoming the leading destination for dog lovers in the UK. And Lakelovers pride ourselves on the standard of our dog friendly accommodation and understand that your pet deserves the luxury that you do. We have a range of cottages that offer pet friendly luxury accommodation and would be an extra special treat for both you and the pooch. Looking through our dog friendly cottages, you’ll still be spoilt for choice with all types of holiday cottages on offer; from large period homes, luxury log cabins and lodges, to modern architect-designed spaces or traditional, cosy cottages, all perfect for your dog friendly holiday in the tranquil Lake District.

Each cottage has its own unique charm and exclusive features, sit in front of an open fire with the dog at your side as you enjoy a nightcap, prepare a family dinner in a country kitchen or a romantic breakfast in a state of the art designer kitchen – the choice is yours.

Why not take a short break to rejuvenate your mind and body, bagging a few Wainwrights and enjoying some local food and drink. Or, stay for a week and you’ll have the time to fully relax and take to the outdoors. Alternatively, a peaceful Christmas break or a New Year getaway to the heart of the Lake District with your family and your dog will be an unforgettable holiday.

What’s more, Lakelovers don’t charge for pets! Why would we? We don’t charge extra for your family members and that’s how we see your four-legged friend, an extension of the family. Lake District dog friendly cottages are the perfect choice for enabling you to bring you dog along with you as many hotels and B&B’s in the Lake District don’t accept dogs and nearly half of all our properties do. Lakelovers have a wide range of Dog Friendly Cottages in Ambleside, Dog Friendly Cottages in Windermere, Dog Friendly Cottages in Coniston, Dog Friendly Cottages in Keswick, Dog Friendly Cottages in Cumbria and Dog Friendly Cottages in Windermere.

Alternatively, if your looking for a more luxurious experience view our collection of luxury cottages in the lake district, many of these cottages are pet friendly.

Out and about with the dog

Dogs have long been a feature of Lake District culture; Border Collies tending flocks of sheep, hounds and gun dogs for hunting and of course the Lakeland and Border Terriers, arguably the best company on a long walk in the fells. Did you know that the sport of hound trailing is pursued only in Cumbria? This is where a scented aniseed trail is laid and the hounds run after it – the hounds can reach speeds of over twenty miles per hour! The relationship between man, dog and the land is ingrained, making the Lake District a particularly special place to spend time with your canine pal.

Lakelovers proudly support Lake District Mountain Rescue Dog Association, a volunteer-run charity who save lives on the fells and lowlands of the Lake District National Park all year around.

Exploring the Lake District with your dog can be as varied and exciting or as relaxed and peaceful as you want it to be. Circumnavigate one of its many waters, Ullswater or Coniston for example are a good-sized walks that most people and dogs can undertake without too much effort. Once en route, you’ll find yourself drinking in the countryside and fresh air that’s all around you. Walk to the top of one of the famous fells, such as Helvellyn or Cat Bells and challenge yourself and Sparky to a grand adventure. At the end of a long day of fun, treat yourself to a well-earned drink in one of the region’s many dog friendly pubs or bars before heading back to your dog friendly accommodation in the Lake District.

Dog friendly pubs

Just as with holiday accommodation, some pubs and bars are more welcoming to dogs than others, so here’s a taste of some of the best dog friendly pubs in the Lake District.

The Watermill Inn is located in Ings, just to the east of Windermere. The Inn has an excellent reputation; it’s suitable for families and is dog friendly. Enjoy a hearty pub meal and enjoy one of the many real ales that the Inn offers, including some brewed on site in the Watermill Brewery.

Meanwhile in Cartmel, the 450 year old Cavendish Arms is another great option for dog owners, it also has a good reputation, boasts a menu that pays homage to Cumbian produce and serves a wide range of beer, ales and wine.

The Drunken Duck is one of the most famous gastropubs in the region, and deserves this reputation. It has excellent food and great beer brewed on site at the Barngate Brewery – where many of the ales are named after pet dogs, including Tag Lag, Red Bull Terrier and Cracker!
