Cottages in Grasmere Sleeps 2-4

Self catering holiday cottages in Grasmere, sleeping 2 to 4 people.

Looking for a holiday cottage in Grasmere that sleeps 2 or 4 people? Sometimes it’s good to escape, just the two of you. Or perhaps want to bring your children with you, or share your holiday with parents or a couple of close friends. Grasmere is the perfect choice for your Lake District getaway. This little village is a jewel at the very heart of Lakeland, William Wordsworth’s chosen home, and a perfect centrepiece for the most beautiful region in England. History, poetry, and landscape combine here for the most magical of English holidays. Adventurous walks amongst the quiet woods, serene lakes, and stunning, mountainous panoramas of the Grasmere valley stir the soul and make Romantic poets of us all. It’s easy to see how Wordsworth found his inspiration when you stay here. You can visit his home, now a museum, at Dove Cottage, and you can go to the churchyard where he lies at rest, surrounded by the landscape he loved so much. The rustic St.Oswalds church, nestling in the centre of the village, alongside an ambling river, is well worth a visit on its own account, particularly when adorned with flowers during the summer ‘rushbearing’, a festival commemorating a time when the church floors were bedecked with green rushes from local lakeshores.

Take out a rowing boat on the lake from Faeryland, which has to be one of the most beautifully situated cafés in the whole of the country, or just sit in the sun and try their selection of teas and ice-creams. For quaint tearooms, Grasmere is spoilt for choice. Don’t leave until you’ve had a cake in all of them! You must leave room, however, for a slice or six the famous and delicious Grasmere gingerbread, served from the tiny shop next to the church.

Be sure to visit the garden centre for horticultural inspiration. The village also has a wonderful and long-established independent bookshop, and some high-quality outdoor clothing stores.

In the evening there are several traditional pubs, and Tweedies Bar, at the Dale Lodge Hotel, offers good food, live local music, and an excellent beer garden. There is also an annual ale festival held there in the early autumn.

For walking, you are really spoilt for choice. Meander along the shoreline on the western side of Grasmere Lake and up on to Loughrigg Terrace beyond for unsurpassed views of the valley, or take the historic ‘Coffin-Trail’ on the eastern side towards Rydal and Ambleside. Make an excursion along the vibrant stream to Easedale Tarn, or go uphill onto Helm Crag, locally known as ‘The Lion and the Lamb’ due to the unique rock formation at its summit. Or follow the path up Greenhead Gill to see the ruins of the sheep-fold that inspired Wordsworth’s poem ‘Michael’.

Grasmere is centrally located within the wider Lake District, and you can easily venture south to Ambleside and Bowness, west to Langdale, Coniston, and Hawkshead, east to Ullswater, or north to Keswick, Derwentwater, and Borrowdale.

We have a fine selection of lovely cottages and apartments in Grasmere for couples and smaller groups. Traditional Lakeland stone hideaways, stylish modern accommodation, pet-friendly properties, retreats with wood-burning stoves or WIFI: whatever you are looking for, Lakelovers is the number one choice.
