Cottages in Grasmere Sleeps 4-6

Self catering holiday cottages in Grasmere, sleeping 4 to 6 people

Looking for a holiday cottage in Grasmere that sleeps between 4 and 6 people? Then Lakelovers have an array of cottages, houses and apartments that will be perfect for your next holiday to the Lakes. It was with good reason that William Wordsworth described the village as the ‘loveliest spot that man hath ever found’, and settled here to make his home. You will feel the same inspiration as the great poet as you stride out on the surrounding fells and look down on the mists rising over Grasmere and Rydal Water and walk amongst the famous Daffodils.  For a combination of history, poetry, and landscape, there can be few more ideal places in England. Here we find an older world preserved in the Lakeland slate cottages, and a lingering impression of the Romantic spirit in the woods, lakes, and fells of the Grasmere valley.

Take your small party along the historic ‘Coffin-Trail’ on the east of the lake towards Rydal. Walk to the isolated and ruggedly lovely Easedale Tarn, or conquer Helm Crag, also known as ‘The Lion and the Lamb’ due to the appearance of the iconic rock formation atop the peak.

Be sure to follow the path up Greenhead Gill to see the ruined sheep-fold that features as a central metaphor in Wordsworth’s poem ‘Michael’, his lament for the breakdown of rural communities and values, and then onwards to the hills beyond. You are well situated for tackling Helvellyn, one of the highest peaks in the Lake District.

For entertainment in the evening there are several traditional pubs, and Tweedies Bar often stages live local music, and has a pleasant beer garden for sitting out with a well-earned ale or glass of wine. There are eateries aplenty, including many cosy tearooms. Don’t forget to sample the local delicacy, Grasmere gingerbread, which has been made to a traditional and secret recipe and served from the tiny shop at the centre of the village for many years.

Hire a rowing boat on the lake from Faeryland, wonderfully situated on the shores of Grasmere, or just enjoy a tea or an ice-cream at this delightful café. Remember to visit the local garden centre for horticultural inspiration. The village also has an excellent independent bookshop, and several outdoor clothing stores where you can buy your boots, walking jackets and other Lakeland essentials.

Grasmere is one of the most popular of the Lake District villages, and its location is a big factor in this; it is perfect as a base for exploring the whole of the region.
