Experienced Golfers

Eskdale Golf Course in the Lake District coastal village of Ravenglass. It at the base of Muncaster Fell and is for those looking for some challenging golf in a scenic setting. The 18 hole par 69 parkland course reaches 5,494 yards in length. It prides itself on its quiet and relaxed atmosphere.

Henry Cotton, three times Open Champion in the 1940’s, helped in the development of Eskdale Golf Club. So there is a real feeling of nostalgia about playing this course. This is especially the case at the signature hole 14th, looking down over a large trout pond.

The secluded Eskdale valley takes you from the West coast of the Lakes to its very heart, where the towers of Scafell Pike, Great End, Bowfell and Langdale’s Crinkle Crags lie. This majestic location is for golfing and Lake District purists and a popular one on the Lake District golfing map.

Fine Greens and Fairways

Windermere Golf Course has an excellent reputation for its quality USGA-spec greens and it has one of the very best settings in the Lakes. Elevated above Lake Windermere the 18 hole 67 par, 5,122 yard course, has panoramic views south to Morcambe Bay, over Lake Windermere to the Langdale Pikes and eastern to the Kentmere Horseshoe and High Street.

Whilst a short course, it offers plenty of challenges and the best greens in the Lake District. For beginners, resident pro Simon Edwards is on hand to get you towards your golfing goals. And pop into the Pro shop for any upgrades you may be hankering after.

This is a typical Lake District golf course, with lots of hills and swathes of perfect greenery. And, as you would expect from a course in the ‘capital of the Lake District’, the club has a superb restaurant with enviable views as well as a busy events calendar.

Don’t forget to add your exclusive Lakelovers £30 per person Windermere Golf Club voucher when you checkout when booking your Lakelovers cottage accommodation. Confirm your Visitor Green Tee Time with the club on 01539 443550. Special discounts are available for group bookings also, so visitors can enjoy the green, even if you’re not members of another golf club. If you fancy staying local t this excellent golf club, then enjoy browsing our Windermere Cottages collection.

Warm Welcome

Keswick Golf Club, in the north Lake District, also has an enviable location and superb greens. Surrounded by open greenery, you can enjoy a challenging course set to stunning views of the north Lake District fells including Skiddaw, Blencathra and the Helvellyn range.

A warm welcome awaits visitors to this truly relaxing golf course, where a coffee or lunch on the terrace is a must on a sunny day.

This 18 hole par 71 course is a good length at 6,200 yards. But don’t let the this inviting course, set amidst rolling countryside, fool you. The standard scratch of 72 against the par of 71 keeps many returning time and again to test their metal.

There’s great practise facilities here, including putting green, a 300-yard practice fairway, two pitching greens and a warm-up net, all close to the first tee. When staying in Keswick, not only do you have superb golf and views, but also many of the Lake District’s famous attractions to hand, such as Derwentwater and Ullswater, Skiddaw and Blencathra, Castlerigg Stone circle, Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake and Whinlatter Forest Park. So, what are you waiting for!

Time For Tee

Whilst Lake District golf clubs are known for their welcoming hospitality, a golfing break in the Lakes wouldn’t be the same without teeing off with some of the Lake’s famous eateries. Here’s a handful of delightful choices across the region.

When golfing in Windermere and the south Lake District head out to the Lyth Valley to try the famous Punch Bowl in Crosthwaite. Or, venture further south into the historic Cartmel village for the gastro delights of Michelin starred L’Enclume or Simon Rogan’s relaxed sister restaurant Rogan & Co. The Boot Inn, in the Lake District’s central and most remote valley of Eskdale, has a popular summer beer festival as well as an award-winning menu. In the northern Lake District, Morrel’s restaurant in Keswick is a pre-theatre favourite and delivers upmarket dining in a very friendly atmosphere.

There are many golf clubs across the Lakes, offering a range of experiences. Kendal Golf Club is one of the oldest in England, and the highest course is in Alston, just outside the Lakes in northern Cumbria. There’s the James Braid design at Cockermouth and the sandy hills of Silloth-on-Solway course that’s also worth a mention.

Whether your game is up to scratch or not, it won’t matter when you’re surrounded by the best scenery in England and have the famous Cumbrian hospitality to welcome you.

We look forward to introducing you to our Lake District golf holidays. Get in touch with our dedicated customer service team on 015494 88855 or enquiries@lakelovers.co.uk if you need any further advice or recommendations.
