In the heart of Hawkshead, Poppi Red has a great range of gifts and ideas for your home. The cafe is warm and welcoming and sells a great range of cakes and pastries.
The Hawkshead Relish Company is an artisan producer of award-winning preserves based in the historic village of Hawkshead in the heart of the English Lake District. Their huge range of relishes, pickles and preserves are handmade in small batches using traditional open pans and locally sourced ingredients, without any artificial flavourings, colourings or preservatives. All are free from nuts and gluten and suitable for vegetarians and they taste amazing!

Kong Adventure is a great place to head to on a rainy day. There’s a spacious climbing wall, offering lead, top rope and bouldering options. Illuminated, themed climbing walls adorn the kids’ section, “The Krazy Kong” and for little ones, there’s a huge indoor hard play are, complete with tunnels and a dragon. Kong Adventure also offer regular outdoor climbing sessions, or ghyll scrambles. The cafe has a full selection of coffee, cakes, snacks and they even host Kids Birthday parties.
Of the many treasures waiting to be discovered in the English Lake District, Lowther Castle is a particular gem. Seventy years on from its demolition, Lowther Castle is now one of the most intriguing visitor attractions in the country. Dramatic ruins, gardens within gardens, an adventure playground to rival the best in the land. For visitors young and old (and four-legged), Lowther Castle offers plenty to enjoy.

Explore the bays and beaches of Ullswater by Kayak. Sea Kayaks are used for maximum comfort and stability. We use double ( tandem ) boats unless there is an odd number of guests on the trip. While the vast majority of our guests don’t even get their feet wet, it’s worth bringing spare clothes just in case you do get wet. Kids ( 12 – 17 years old ) go half price. The World of Beatrix Potter, Bowness-on-Windermere
Step into the stories of Beatrix Potter with this all-immersive walk-through experience. Meet Peter Rabbit and all his friends as you travel through the Lake District in miniature, using all five senses to whisk you off to Victorian times when Beatrix Potter wrote her beautiful little books. Keep an eye out for the Peter Rabbit Garden, a magical little place which won a Gold Award at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2015!
Blackwell Arts and Crafts House is part of the renowned Lakeland Arts, specialising in bringing great works of Art to the Lake District. This beautiful house in Bowness-on-Windermere, overlooking the lake, has exhibitions all year round and has an incredible programme of local and national art on display.

The Old Laundry is the little theatre that thinks big – bringing the best of World entertainment to Bowness-on-Windermere! Affectionately named La’al Ratty, meaning Little Railway, this attraction is a real Lake District gem! Hop on the beautiful steam train which runs one of the oldest narrow gauge railways in Britain and enjoy a trip through the beautiful Eskdale Valley.

This independent Bowness Restaurant and Bar mixes urban style with rural charm.
