One of the most frequently asked questions we get from our guests is, where shall we go to buy food? So we thought we would compile a list of the best places to stock up on the essential, and maybe some not so essential items to keep you going throughout your stay in the Lake District.
Low Sizergh Barn
This 17thcentury award winning farm shop is located on a working dairy farm off the A591 just outside of Kendal. Here you will find a huge selection of local produce including cheese, bread, meat and fabulous locally made cakes. If you are coming from the motorway this is a great place to stop off and take lunch as they also have a cafe which has a viewing window into the dairy.
Plumgarths Farm Shop and Cafe
Primarily a butchers this farm shop has all manner of meats available. So stock up on enough meat for the week or indulge in their freshly made pies and sausage rolls. You could also treat yourself to a bottle of Damson gin, sure to warm you up after a chilly day on the hills.
More? The Artisan Bakery
Located in the newly built mill yard in Staveley, More? is a fantastic artisan bakery and cafe where fresh hot and cold sandwiches are made to order. They have a great selection of breads on offer and isn’t to be missed. Their cakes are to die for, we recommend their famous Muddees, though you might want to plan a walk afterwards to burn off the calories!
Booth is out largest local supermarket. Full to the brim with local produce and all the necessary items you will need for your stay. Situated by the train station Booths is open Monday to Saturday 8am – 9pm and Sunday 9.30am – 4.00pm.
