This secluded Satterthwaite holiday home enjoys a peaceful, picturesque location in the Rusland Valley between the lakes of Coniston and Windermere, just south of Hawkshead village. The sleepy hamlet is surrounded by a natural playground of stunning landscapes to explore; a great base for walking and outdoor adventure as well as for escaping the everyday rush. This area is still a secluded "back-water" but within easy reach of local attractions. Satterthwaite village boasts the Eagles Head pub, a children's playground and a public tennis court.
To the north, Grizedale Forest is an intriguing network of walking routes, cycle paths and sculpture trails, the "Go Ape" tree top assault course, and the Grizedale Centre. Lake Windermere lies to the east, and a car-ferry crossing can take you across the lake to explore the lively attractions of Bowness village.
Also close by is the village of Near Sawrey, where Beatrix Potter famously lived and was inspired to write her children's stories. Visit the author's home at Hill Top and explore her favourite places; such as Esthwaite Water and Moss Eccles Tarn. Also close is Newby Bridge and Lakeside where you can catch a boat trip on Lake Windermere or a steam engine on the historic Lakeside/Haverthwaite Railway.
Hawkshead village itself is easily reached to your north; a charming historic village of whitewashed Lakeland cottages, and the old grammar school attended by William Wordsworth. It has car-free cobbled streets and interesting local shops. You can stock up the kitchen there, or drive just a few miles to Ambleside village.
About 15 minutes drive south is the historic market Town of Ulverston, start of the Cumbrian way, and birth place of Stan Laurel.
