“We had another wonderful holiday in Butt Hill Cottage - leaving just hours before the snow arrived.”

Thank you for the lovely welcome pack. It was a lovely warm welcome to have the heating on for our arrival, as well as the Christmas tree being up! However there was no cafeteria this time, or slow pot or DVD player - all of which have been there previously. The knob to the wardrobe door in the twin bedroom came off and needs re-gluing! All minor points but the owners should be aware.

Location For a true escape from the daily grind, the Troutbeck Valley is an unrivalled location for a cottage holiday in the Lake District. At the start of the dramatic Kirkstone Pass, the valley is a haven of peaceful grazing land, scattered rural homes and pretty woodlands. Surrounded by walks in the Lakeland Fells, the Troutbeck Valley is also a favourite with photographers - you'll understand why when you experience the scenery! The village of Troutbeck, nestled nearby in the valley, has the excellent Mortal Man pub, renowned for their mouthwatering menus, locally sourced where possible and accompanied by real Lakeland ales - perfect for a special occasion or simply to refuel after a long day on the fells. About the location

TROUTBECK

Windermere 3 miles; Ambleside 4 miles.

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.

The garden for Butt Hill extends only from the rear of the car port and to the left.
