The property

This unusual Lake District character cottage forms part of a converted Grade II listed chapel and is situated in Ambleside's peaceful conservation area. Dating back to 1550, the property retains its period features; arched church windows, exposed beams, an original church pew in the dining area and squeaky floorboards on both sets of original oak stairs! Three comfortable bedrooms, including the attic, 'belfry' bedroom, allow 3 couples or a family of 6 to share this unique Ambleside property. The property is a lovely combination of original church architecture and contemporary comfort. Accommodation in detail ** A new kitchen has been installed in July 22 You enter the kitchen through the beautiful, original old chapel doors. The attractive and well-equipped kitchen / dining room enjoys lots of natural light through its patio door which leads into a shared outside space with benches. The lounge is newly decorated and very cosy with a feature fireplace. The original oak staircase leads you upstairs past the arched church windows to two double bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom and one with its own bathroom opposite. On the third floor there is an attic ‘belfry’ bedroom which can be made up as a twin or as a super king bed (please specify when booking) and an open plan bathroom, divided by old A-frame beams and including a beautiful Italian roll top bath. Location This lovely Lake District property enjoys a fantastic location. A stone’s throw from Ambleside’s wide range of shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and cinemas yet located in its historic conservation area, just far enough from the crowds to be blissfully peaceful and quiet. The property also enjoys an elevated position with accompanying views. A few minutes from the village is the shore of Lake Windermere at Waterhead. Here, you can enjoy lake shore dining, stunning lake views and of course the opportunity to take a romantic cruise on Lake Windermere - a great way to explore Bowness or Lakeside without taking your car. Ambleside also provides a great starting point for your day trips throughout the must-see areas of the Lake District. The A591 road leads north past Rydal Water to historic Grasmere; a world-famous Lake District village surrounded by the poet William Wordsworth's favourite landscapes. Visit his former home at Dove Cottage and explore Beatrix Potter's farmhouse at Hill Top. The A593 leads only a short distance to spectacular scenery and breathtaking walking in the Langdale Valley, and on to picturesque Coniston. Our tip for a romantic Sunday drive from Ambleside, is to join the famous Kirkstone Pass Road which leads past serene Brotherswater on to Ullswater. The Queen's Head or the Mortal Man in Troutbeck can also be reached via this route, and these are two of the finest gastropubs in the Lake District.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
