“The cottage is delightful and we had a lovely stay.”

It is prettily decorated and comfortable with all needs catered for. It's also in a great, central, location. We would recommend it to anyone. However, a couple of little niggles, if sorted, would make it perfect. The french doors into the little front garden didn't open (key didn't work) so we were unable to sit there which was a shame. And the front door snib didn't work so we had to be careful not to lock ourselves out! Also, the cooker and hob took a bit of working out so up to date info on ...

Other than that, it's a gem!

The property

Columbine Cottage is a welcoming three-bedroom dwelling located in Hawkshead, a lovely village in Cumbria. The charming home is ideal for families and groups of friends wishing to explore the Cumbrian countryside; six guests and one well-behaved dog are welcome. It is situated inside the Lake District National Park and is close to Lake Windermere and several local services and activities. Before unwinding around the dining table or on the sumptuous leather sofas, encompassed by an original beamed ceiling, take advantage of the well-equipped kitchen and utility. Choose between the front or rear patios, both secluded and situated in a calm environment, to enjoy a coffee or an afternoon beverage. Three well-presented bedrooms, including two doubles and a twin, are located upstairs and are all served by a roomy bathroom. When you're ready to venture out, take advantage of Hawkshead's amenities, which is dotted with convenience stores, pubs, restaurants, and nearby attractions. After a long day of enjoying the local fells and lakes, why not enjoy a treatment at the nearby Beauty Rooms. The perfect way to end your day of exploring. For those who enjoy history, art, and culture, the Beatrix Potter Gallery and Hawkshead, as well as The Fitzwilliam Gallery, are within easy walking distance. Esthwaite Water Trout Fishery and Coniston Water, which are great for trout fishing or the chance to kayak through the national park, are only a short drive away. In addition, Lake Windermere, also accessible by car, is surrounded by must-see attractions, such as Hill Top, the former home of Beatrix Potter, and Claife Heights, the ideal challenge for ardent hikers. While travelling in the direction of Ambleside, take leisurely strolls through Borrans Park and beyond the magnificent Stock Ghyll Force waterfall; for more avid walkers, Wansfell Pike is a suggested route. In addition to these family-friendly attractions, the national park is home to Rydal Cave, Lakes Aquarium, and The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction. Take advantage of Columbine Cottage's beautiful surroundings.

About the location

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
