“Corner cottage was comfortable and cosy and highly recommended for two people who want to stay somewhere quiet but convenient for what the Lakes has to offer.”

Although the kitchen is small it has everything you need for preparing and cooking meals and we enjoyed eating in some nights and lighting the log burner, we had to provide all our own logs and kindling though. We brought our bikes with us and managed to store them in the porch. The bed was comfy and the heating was easy to control and kept the cottage warm and welcoming for when we arrived back after a day out in the hills. We brought our bikes with us and managed to store them in the porch. The bed was comfy and the heating was easy to control and kept the cottage warm and welcoming for when we arrived back after a day out in the hills. We didn't eat at the Mortal Man even though it is right next to the cottage but we did eat twice at the Queen's Head which took about 10-15 minutes to walk to and was really nice.

About the location

TROUTBECK

Windermere 3 miles; Ambleside 4 miles.

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.
