The property

Crag View is a beautiful family-friendly holiday cottage that sleeps 6 and welcomes dogs. Nestled in the peaceful hamlet of Underbarrow, it is just a quick walk from the delightful Black Labrador pub, renowned for a great menu. The Wheatsheaf at Brigsteer, The Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite and the Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank are all within a short drive. Crag View is a short 15 minute drive to Bowness and Kendal. Overlooking the picturesque Lyth Valley, it is also ideal for a walking holiday. There is a magnificent range of local walks to suit all abilities, from a hike over nearby Cunswick Scar (steep in places and well worth the effort) to fun walks with young children, for example the walk over Scout Scar. This is one of the 'Miles Without Stiles' walks and is suitable for pushchairs. Crag View is a cosy cottage at any time of the year. It offers a warming open fire for cosy nights in and the pretty garden is perfect for lazy summer days. Whilst staying here you'll probably be tempted out to one of superb local pubs. Along with the Black Labrador, you will also find some great local inns. The Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite and the Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank are two of the Lake District's finest. == Accomodation in detail You can park right outside on the private driveway. Access to the property is via the entrance porch which features smooth tiled flooring, a cupboard to hang coats, a washing machine, tumble dryer and loads of space to store and dry walking kit. The kitchen / diner features all mod cons and overlooks the beautiful garden. The comfy lounge offers cosy leather sofas, books, TV and a writing desk. You can access the garden through the patio doors. The outdoor space has a patio, lawn and bedded areas and attracts a whole host of wildlife. This includes many wild British birds attracted by the greenery. Beyond the garden stretches a magnificent outlook over open fields, often with sheep and lambs in season. Upstairs you will find three bedrooms; a king size en-suite, a double and a twin room. The spacious bathroom includes a shower over bath. Location Crag View is located in the idyllic hamlet of Underbarrow, close to three hubs: Windermere, Kendal and Stavely of the Lake District. It overlooks the stunning Lyth Valley, known for its blossoming damson orchards. The area is bordered by the majestic 'Scars' - mountains perfect for cyclists and keen hikers. For self-catering, Booths in Kendal stocks delicious meats, cheeses, deli items and regular groceries. Alternatively, you can order in deliveries for your arrival as all the main supermarkets deliver to the property. There are several lovely local pubs and inns to discover: the afore mentioned Black Labrador is a short walk away. There are wonderful local walks directly from the property such as the ascent of White Scar or Scout Scar. Or you may chose to travel further into the Lake District and catch the local car ferry with daily crossings from Bowness to Hawkshead. From here you can access many walks; Claife Heights is popular or slightly further a field to Latterbarrow. If you are feeling adventurous you may choose one of the spectacular Lake District High Fells. For keen golfers, Beckside Golf Course is a 3 minute drive from the cottage and Windermere Golf Club is 10 minutes away. If tennis is your thing, courts are available to book at Windermere Queens Recreation ground.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

UNDERBARROW

Kendal 5 miles; Windermere 7.5 miles.

Underbarrow is a quiet, pretty Lakeland village close to the historic market town of Kendal and within reach of the wonderful Lake Windermere. The village has a pub and is ideally placed for exploring southern Lakeland and the Lake District National Park. Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall, both with fine gardens, are nearby, and Kendal has much to offer in terms of shopping and is quite lively culturally, thanks to the Brewery Arts Centre and the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and Museum, which is widely recognised as one of the best in the region. Also worth a visit is the ruin of Kendal Castle, which was formerly the home of Katherine Parr, and there’s plenty to see and do with Grange-over-Sands, Cartmel, Ulverton, Bowness, Ambleside and even the Yorkshire Dales National Park within driving distance. Underbarrow is a lovely base for exploring the area.
