Croft Corner has a peaceful location on the fringe of Applethwaite village, just one mile from Keswick. The village nestles at the foot of Skiddaw and captures countryside life that has remained unchanged for years. Croft Corner is part of a large Victorian house and offers quality ground floor accommodation – a Lakeland hideaway for just two people. The cottage has spectacular views and is ideally placed to enjoy a selection of walks from the door with pub/three restaurants and health spa facilities also within walking distance. The popular market town of Keswick is a few minutes drive away or just a 20 minute walk. Likewise it is only a short drive to the shores of both Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. You can drive to no less than 7 other lakes within 30 minutes. For those seeking out the thrills of the high fells the views from the northern fells of Helvellyn, Skiddaw and Blencathra are some of the best in the Lake District. In addition to the routes over the high fells there is a wealth of lower level routes including riverside strolls and lakeside paths. In contrast you can explore the many literary and historical connections in the area – the Lake District is now a UNESCO site.
This delightful cottage has its own garden with a gravel path leading to the front door which opens into the kitchen. This well equipped kitchen includes an electric hob and double oven cooker, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and a microwave. The lounge/dining room overlooks the garden and has views to Latrigg and the shoulder of Skiddaw. It is an ideal place to relax in after a day on the fells. Entertainment is taken care of with a TV with DVD player and music system and there is wifi. The double bedroom has a view over the garden and the farmland beyond to Latrigg. There is a spacious en-suite bathroom offering bath with shower over, wc and basin.
The accommodation is completed with an adjacent boiler/boot room, with space to store and dry walking gear. There is a shared laundry room (with washing machine, tumble dryer and additional drying facilities) and on-site parking for 1 car.
From the cottage garden of Croft Corner there is a spectacular view right to the summit of Skiddaw. The garden has well planted borders, two small water features and a patio area with garden furniture and a BBQ.
Keswick is one of the Lake District's most popular destinations. This friendly town hosts the very popular twice weekly market that has recently won the coveted “Best Outdoor Market” in the Great British Market Awards. The town also offers a fantastic array of shops offering everything from craft bakeries and local produce, antiques, crafts and much, much more.
If you are looking for somewhere to eat and drink, a week just won't be long enough to sample the great range of pubs, restaurants, bistros, cafes and wine bars! For a great evening out why not visit the 100 year old Alhambra offering first class cinema entertainment in traditional surroundings or enjoy an evening at “the most beautiful and friendly theatre in Britain”, the 400 seat Theatre By The Lake on the shores of Derwentwater.
Enjoy a cruise on Derwentwater, walk onto the fells; Cat Bells, Skiddaw, Coledale Horeshoe and Blencathra are all nearby, head underground at Honister Slate Mines, enjoy mountain biking in Whinlatter Forest.
For day trips throughout the Lake District, Ullswater is a 30 minute drive away offering lake cruises, great walking and the beautiful Aira Force Waterfall. Buttermere and Crummock Water offer sublime scenery – especially if you reach them via the dramatic Honister Pass. Ashness Bridge and Surprise View situated above the Borrowdale Valley should not be missed and perhaps even a cup of tea and homemade cake in the unspoilt village of Watendlath.
