Overview
Travelling south of Bowness on Windermere you reach the highly desirable residential area of Storrs Park which includes some of the Lake District’s most prestigious properties and so Croft Cottage finds itself in very good company! It is located across the road from Broad Leys, the now head quarters of Windermere Motor Boat Club and was the original butler’s residence for the big house when it was privately owned.
Croft Cottage has a great history of many happy family holidays and will no doubt play host to many more for years to come. The semi-detached property is spread over two floors that include a spacious kitchen, dual aspect lounge, a family dining room, and four comfortable bedrooms. Outside there is ample parking and mature gardens.
Only five minutes' drive from the Bowness village, Croft Cottage is within easy reach of all the local amenities and shops that Bowness has to offer along with a great selection of bars, restaurants and cafes.
Ideal for families and special occasions, Croft Cottage offers quality accommodation, in a great location and is a great choice whatever the time of year.
Accommodation in detail
Enter through the front door and the entrance hall offers plenty of space for coats and boots and a bench to sit and change your footwear. Off the hallway is a shower room with basin and WC.
An inner hallway leads to a large contemporary kitchen which overlooks the garden and includes everything you could need to cook up meals from a hearty breakfast to a celebration dinner. It includes a dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer. The breakfast table is ideal first thing in the morning or so others can join the chef in the kitchen! Off the kitchen there is utility room with washing machine and drying rack. The back door leads to the garden and an outside store room where there is a small tumble dryer and ample space for bikes.
Also off the inner hallway is the large dining room, ideal for family dinners and socialising in the evening. There is also a second log burning stove.
The dual aspect lounge offers views to both Lake Windermere at the front and the garden at the rear and the sofas and comfy arm chairs are arranged around a log burning stove and large screen TV.
As you climb the stairs you will almost certainly pause to enjoy the view of Lake Windermere from the tall feature window before reaching the landing. This leads to the bedrooms; two offer king size beds, one with lake and garden views and one with garden views to the rear and both include vanity basins. Two are twin bedded rooms and again one offers glimpses of Lake Windermere whilst the other overlooks the garden. Also on the first floor there is a family bathroom complete with bath, large shower cubicle, basin and WC. There is an additional WC also located off the landing.
To the rear and side of the house there is a lovely enclosed garden with lawns, mature trees and shrubs and a patio area complete with picnic table – ideal on a summer's afternoon.
To the front, the property has well planted borders and parking for three cars and a pathway to the back door.
Location
Croft Cottage is in a quiet location, just five or six minutes' drive south from the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere, the popular Lake District holiday location, nestling on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere and alive with all the boating activities of Bowness Bay.
Enjoy great shops, tempting cafes, excellent Lake District restaurants, cosy traditional pubs, contemporary bars or stroll to the pier to hop on a Windermere Lake Cruise to Ambleside or Lakeside - a lovely way to enjoy Lake Windermere at any time of year.
Family attractions in Bowness include the award-winning World of Beatrix Potter attraction - a favourite with the kids. You'll also find mini golf and tennis near the lake shore, and Windermere Golf Club just a few minutes' drive out of the village.
There are a wide range of cafes and restaurants in Bowness, to suit all tastes and budgets. From top quality Fish & Chips to fine dining, there's something to please everyone. Bowness also has a mainstream cinema and the Old Laundry Theatre offers an interesting programme of performances.
Another famous neighbour of Croft Cottage is Blackwell, the Arts and Crafts house, designed for the wealthy Manchester brewer Sir Edward Holt by architect Baillie Scott. This simply stunning property is considered to be one of the finest examples of the Arts and Crafts movement and is open to the public to enjoy all year round.

Reviews
This was a family reunion as the seven of us live spread across the globe in England and the USA. We last gathered in Bowness in 2014.
My family, to a person, entered Croft Cottage and immediately felt embraced by the charm and comfort of the house. It felt very much like "home".
