Croftside is located on the outskirts of Applethwaite village and is to the right hand side of Croft House in the photos of the front of the house. Applethwaite village is an unspoilt hamlet set at the foot of Skiddaw. Croftside is just 1 mile from Keswick and is part of a large Victorian house – with a feeling of grandeur associated with that period. It has magnificent views from every room and is furnished to a high standard – ideal for those seeking a beautiful Lakeland retreat with amazing views and a peaceful location. There are walks from the door and a choice of a pub/three restaurants and health spa facilities within walking distance. In addition the popular Lakeland market town of Keswick is just a short drive from the cottage(or a scenic 20 minutes walk) with a great array of cafes, bars and restaurants and of course the popular, award winning, twice weekly market and great local shops. It is just a few minutes drive to the shores of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite with 7 other lakes within 30 minutes drive. For those wanting to head to the high fells routes to the challenging and awe-inspiring Blencathra, Helvellyn and Skiddaw are all within easy reach of Croftside – but there is also a multitude of low level walks including riverside strolls and lakeside paths. In addition the Lake District is now a UNESCO site and there are many literary and historical connections to explore in the area.
Approached from a quiet country lane, the entrance to Croftside is reached via a gravel path leading through the side garden and then into the main garden of the property.
The ground floor of Croftside has a spacious, south facing double bedroom with a view overlooking the garden and hills beyond. Across the hallway is a shower room with shower, basin and WC.
A pine staircase leads to the first floor with the lounge and kitchen/dining room – both of these are. double aspect rooms with magnificent views. The lounge has panoramic views south to the Borrowdale and the north western fells – it is an ideal place to relax with a glass of wine or the morning paper. A TV, DVD player and music system are provided – also wifi. The kitchen/dining room has beautiful views up to Skiddaw. The well equipped kitchen area includes an electric hob and double oven cooker, dishwasher, fridge and microwave. A freezer is provided.
The second floor has another welcoming bedroom which is a twin, again with panoramic views. Across the landing from this twin bedroom there is a bathroom - with a shower over the bath, basin and WC – and a spectacular view to Skiddaw with the village of Applethwaite at its foot.
The accommodation is completed with an adjacent boiler/boot room, with space to store and dry walking gear. There is a shared laundry room (with washing machine, tumble dryer and additional drying facilities). The garden has a patio area with garden furniture and a BBQ and is an idyllic place to relax with family or friends – just to recall the adventures of the day, plan those for tomorrow or to enjoy al-fresco meals with amazing views.
Keswick is one of the Lake District's most popular destinations. This friendly town hosts the very popular twice weekly market that has recently won the coveted “Best Outdoor Market” in the Great British Market Awards. The village also offers a fantastic array of shops offering everything from craft bakeries and local produce, antiques, crafts and much, much more.
If you are looking for somewhere to eat and drink, a week just won't be long enough to sample the great range of pubs, restaurants, bistros, cafes and wine bars! For a great evening out why not visit the 100 year old Alhambra offering first class cinema entertainment in traditional surroundings or enjoy an evening at “the most beautiful and friendly theatre in Britain”, the 400 seat Theatre By The Lake on the shores of Derwentwater.
Enjoy a cruise on Derwentwater, walk onto the fells; Cat Bells, Skiddaw, Coledale Horeshoe and Blencathra are all nearby, head underground at Honister Slate Mine, enjoy mountain biking in Whinlatter Forest.
For day trips throughout the Lake District, Ullswater is just a 30 minute drive away offering lake cruises, great walking and the beautiful Aira Force Waterfall, whilst Buttermere and Crummock Water offer sublime scenery. Ashness Bridge and Surprise View situated above the Borrowdale Valley should not be missed and perhaps even a cup of tea and homemade cake in the unspoilt village of Watendlath.
