“A really lovely cottage that had everything I needed or wanted for a home away from home.”

The views over the fields are fabulous (and great fun to watch the sheep playing!). The Black Labrador pub nearby was excellent too, and a nice easy walk from the house. The dog and I had a wonderful week here!

If you're taking a leisurely pace, you'll relish the elegant combination of Laura Ashley and Farrow & Ball throughout ample living space even for two couples. Explore the gardens and woodlands, rest-up in decadent bedroom suites, admire the view from the sun terrace or cosy-up by the woodburner in this unforgettable retreat. Foxdene Cottage is a 25 minute drive from Bowness and Lake Windermere. == Accommodation in detail A long driveway leads to the cottage, and a stable door to the entrance hall with under-heated slate floor. Elegant lounge / dining room with old oak beams, feature fireplace and large glass doors to the sun-trap terrace. A superb oak / granite kitchen leads to the conservatory, with additional access to terrace. Ground floor king-size luxury en-suite bedroom with patio doors to private patio.Upstairs to the master suite with king-size sleigh bed, scenic sitting area and decadent Victorian bathroom.Location This luxury rural cottage in the Lake District sits pretty as a picture overlooking the scenic Lyth Valley, famous for its serene walking, peaceful cycling and scattering of acclaimed Lake District gastropubs. Nearby is the famous Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank - a must during your stay. The Punchbowl at Crosthwaite (a small village in the north of the Lyth Valley) also comes highly recommended. We have a Scandinavian Hot Tub for 6 people. Bathe in our large family tub and enjoy the calming experience whilst taking in stunning views towards Gummers How. We do not use any water treatment chemicals so it’s friendly to the environment and a kinder, softer bathing experience. We clean the tub and refill the tub every week and ask you to change the water each time you use it. The tub is wood fired and takes up to 3 hours to reach bathing temperature. Bags of Kiln dried logs are stored next to the tub at the cost of £10.00 per bag. The Lyth Valley lies to the east of Lake Windermere, offering a quieter alternative to the busier Lake District holiday destinations. But you'll find a manageable drive takes you to shops, cafes, restaurants and evening entertainment in Bowness village on the lake shore, with the opportunity to take a steamer cruise to Ambleside or Lakeside. Windermere Golf Club is also en-route to Bowness and keen golfers will love the scenic course. If you're keen to explore the wider reaches of the Lake District National Park, you'll link up to the A591 at Windermere and find this road takes you easily to Ambleside, Grasmere and beyond.

There is WIFI available but it cannot be guaranteed.

About the location

UNDERBARROW

Kendal 5 miles; Windermere 7.5 miles.

Underbarrow is a quiet, pretty Lakeland village close to the historic market town of Kendal and within reach of the wonderful Lake Windermere. The village has a pub and is ideally placed for exploring southern Lakeland and the Lake District National Park. Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall, both with fine gardens, are nearby, and Kendal has much to offer in terms of shopping and is quite lively culturally, thanks to the Brewery Arts Centre and the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and Museum, which is widely recognised as one of the best in the region. Also worth a visit is the ruin of Kendal Castle, which was formerly the home of Katherine Parr, and there’s plenty to see and do with Grange-over-Sands, Cartmel, Ulverton, Bowness, Ambleside and even the Yorkshire Dales National Park within driving distance. Underbarrow is a lovely base for exploring the area.
