With a comfortable lounge with a welcoming log fire, a relaxing sitting room with French windows, a cosy snug, a great dining room and a homely, social, kitchen, there is plenty of space to relax, socialise, unwind and dine all within easy reach of the restaurants, bars, cafes and amenities of Bowness.
Not only is Garth Cottage just the place from which to explore the very best of the Lake District, the miles of county footpaths, the myriad of pretty villages, the rich culture and heritage and its numerous country pubs and fine dining establishments.
Accommodation In Detail
There is a satisfying crunch of gravel under the tyres as you turn into the driveway of Garth Cottage and park right outside the cottage that stands at the top of a private road. The front door opens to the hallway that links the living accommodation and from here the imposing staircase leads to the bedrooms on the first floor.
The south west facing lounge is richly decorated and furnished and benefits from a large bay window with patio doors overlooking the garden. Comfortable sofas and armchairs are arranged around the wall mounted TV and feature fire place with welcoming log burning stove. To the front of the cottage there is a relaxing sitting room with leather sofas and reclining armchairs and from here French doors open directly on to the patio and with an additional TV is a lovely place to kick back and relax in front of your favourite TV programme. A cosy snug, with gas log effect stove, is the place to head for with a good book or the weekend papers.
With beautiful views out to the central Lakeland Fells and the Langdale Pikes, the sophisticated dining room is ideal for special family gatherings or social evenings with friends and at its centre piece a beautiful feature dining table with matching period side furnishings. For those that believe that the kitchen is the heart of the home they are sure not to be disappointed. A family breakfast table with comfortable seating is set into the large bay window overlooking the garden. A cosy red Aga is a real feature of the kitchen and the cooking facilities continue with a double electric oven and a three ring gas hob set into the island unit in the centre of the room. Well equipped with microwave, integrated dishwasher, fridge and freezer and a first class inventory, the kitchen offers everything you could need to create everything from a hearty breakfast to a celebratory dinner. To the side of the kitchen the utility area is home to a large second fridge with cold water dispenser and a tumble drier. Also on ground floor there is a handy cloakroom WC.
The first floor landing links four fabulous bedrooms. Choose from one of two welcoming kings size bedrooms both offering beautiful views and ensuite shower rooms and one with a large balcony looking north towards the Langdale Pikes and Central Lakeland fells. The final two bedrooms are presented as a smart kingsize room and the second can be presented either as a superking room or twin room (please state your preference when booking) and these bedrooms are complemented by a luxurious shower room with basin, WC and heated towel rail.
Back outside the level lawned garden runs to a third of an acre and includes a large patio with outdoor dining furniture making it the ideal place for fizz and dinner on a summers evening. Parking is available for up to four cars and the garage is available to guests for the secure storage of mountain bike, canoes and bulky outdoor gear.
Garth Cottage is located near to the main lakeside town of Bowness on Windermere. Convenient for local amenities and access to the fantastic cruising grounds of Lake Windermere as well as the surrounding National Park by foot or car. On the eastern shores of Lake Windermere, Bowness is a sophisticated Lakeland village with a wealth to explore and enjoy. Stroll to the lake shore in Bowness to hire a row boat or power boat, or take an elegant cruise on one of the Lake Windermere steamers. Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly to Ambleside and Lakeside; a wonderful way to explore without even using your car.
There are several excellent restaurants in Bowness village, also close by are many Michelin star restauants for stylish dining, while the Porthole and Bodegas & Sol puts a contemporary twist on the tapas style. There are also plenty of traditional Lakeland pubs, both in the village centre and the surrounding countryside. Or better still within the Windermere Marina, less than a mile away, is The Boathouse Bar & Restaurant. Eating out in Cumbria has never been better, and now there is a gem on our door step! Enjoy one of the two fantastic south facing terraces on those lazy summer days, spend a few hours in the bar or book a table in the first floor restaurant for something a little more special or of course enjoy the comfort of your own accommodation back at your very own lakeside boathouse.
Windermere Golf Club is just outside Bowness village, on the way to the Lyth Valley. This area is also renowned for gentle but very scenic walking, with a wealth of acclaimed Lake District country pubs to choose from at the end of the day.
Close to the village, you'll find Blackwell, The Arts and Crafts House. This impressive property takes a stunning position overlooking Lake Windermere, and has a range of interesting exhibitions.
Join the A591 to Ambleside and Grasmere, and you can explore the homes of famous Lake District poet, William Wordsworth.
Another great idea is to take the car-ferry crossing, just a couple of hundred yards from your doorstep, over Lake Windermere from Bowness, to visit the former home of Beatrix Potter in Near Sawrey, and the picturesque village of Hawkshead.
