“We had a lovely week at the cottage.”

It was clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. Plenty of room for two families with two dogs. A large safe garden and a variety of sitting areas inside and out. Beautiful countryside, wildlife and walks. Excellent eateries within a short distance. Fine meal at The Brown Horse Winster, and an excellent breakfast at Low Sizergh Barn cafe on the way home. Interesting visit to Stott’s Bobbin Mill. Very impressed that a failing smoke alarm was attended to within an hour of ...

The property

This 17th century Westmorland 'longhouse' is what we'd describe as a dream Lake District holiday home. Elegantly refurbished to 5 star luxury, unforgettable for its 'olde worlde' charms and part of a picture-postcard rural scene - overlooking the lush Lyth Valley, a mile from the acclaimed Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank only a few miles from the shores of Lake Windermere. Rich in character with old oak beams and deep silled windows, woodburning stove and pretty latch doors, the spacious accommodation provides ample breathing space for a family or even 3 couples. You'll find 3 stunning king-size bedroom suites, elegant dining space and plenty of corners for retreating with a good book - including garden, patio and pretty sun terrace. == Accommodation in detail From the front entrance; entrance hall with cloakroom/4th WC and a landing with access to the rear patio. Dual aspect living room with flagged floors, woodburning stove and luxury leather furnishings. 2nd living / dining room, open plan to the kitchen, and with patio doors to a scenic patio. Upstairs to a scenic gallery landing / reading area and 3 king-size bedrooms with stunning bathrooms and superb views, particularly from the interesting hayloft bedroom. Outside you'll find pretty gardens, furnished patio and furnished sun terrace. Location This luxury Lake District holiday cottage takes an enviable rural location; overlooking the serene Lyth Valley but still only a few miles from shops, restaurants, pubs and Lake District family attractions in Bowness. To the east of Lake Windermere the Lyth Valley's peaceful landscapes provide a quieter alternative to the hustle bustle of popular Lake District holiday destinations such as Bowness and Ambleside. The valley is renowned for its wonderful walking, down quiet leafy lanes or up onto the fells to overlook Lake Windermere. The famous Gummers How walk begins only a short drive from your door and promises one of the finest lake views in the Lake District from its manageable summit. It's also perfectly followed by a meal at the Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank - one of several acclaimed Lake District country pubs nestled in the valley. For family entertainment, sophisticated shopping and lively nightlife you're only a few miles from Bowness village. You'll also find family entertainments such as the World of Beatrix Potter, mini golf by the lake, hire boats and row boats in the bay, and the opportunity to take a cruise on one of the Windermere Lake steamers. Windermere Golf Club is within easy reach on the outskirts of Bowness. From your holiday cottage in the Lyth Valley, you'll easily explore the rest of the Lake District by joining up to the famously scenic A591 at Windermere village - just a couple of miles north of Bowness.
