Accommodation in detail
A shared yet private forecourt provides three parking spaces for Hartwood. Enter the garden through the gate and soak up the fabulous panoramic views before you even set foot inside the property. Walk across the extensive slate infinity terrace and enter directly into the spacious and warm conservatory*, complete with under-floor heating, which provides a light and airy space from which to marvel at that view, whatever the weather or season! This opens out into the main living space with a cosy seating area around the elegant limestone fireplace, complete with its wood-burning stove – perfect for winter Lakeland nights in! The integral dining area is also set in a substantial floor to ceiling bay window that is just perfect for admiring the views. The ingenious kitchen, also set in the open plan living area, has all you may need for family dining, and all wrapped up in stunning blue-black granite.
An inner hallway leads to the rest of Hartwood: three bedrooms, and downstairs to the cinema room, games room and comprehensive utility area. The main bedroom with its king size bed has wonderful views from the huge bay window, and enjoys a luxurious en-suite wet room, cloaked in limestone, and with monsoon shower. The second bedroom also has a king size bed and patio doors leading on to a separate area of the terrace, complete with seating area, and on to the garden beyond. This room has direct access to the opulent house bathroom, also tiled in limestone and with a free-standing designer bath with waterfall spout – a fabulous place to indulge yourself, and to relax and unwind after a hard day walking in the mountains. The house bathroom also has aseparate monsoon shower facility with additional hand held shower head. The third bedroom, which can either be set up as a super king size or twin (please specify when booking), has its own private veranda as well as an en-suite Lakeland slated WC with wash basin.
Oak and glass stairs lead down to the cinema room with comfy seating and giant bean-bags from which to relax and watch the large wall-mounted TV with linked X-Box 360; what a place to catch up on your favourite films! Guests can also access Netflix on this TV if they have their own account; otherwise you can choose from the extensive DVD selection. This room also has a library of novels, useful Lake District walks books and maps and a well-stocked toy-box to keep even the little ones happy. On this level there is also a useful utility / kitchen / boot room with access to the garden and also a second fridge, for the wine or beer – whatever your tipple! Lastly there is a games room with full-size pool table and music system that will keep any teenager amused and is a great bolt hole when the weather is bad. Outside, the Lakeland slate infinity terrace is the place to be and the gardens are a real delight whatever time of the year, and that view, well ….. it is simply to die for!

The location is ideal for walking in the Lake District, with many renowned routes beginning in and around the village. But Ambleside is also a popular choice for a relaxed, slow-paced holiday. Contemporary shops, leisurely lake cruises, acclaimed Lake District restaurants and cosy traditional pubs make the village centre a delight at any time of year.
For evening entertainment, you'll find plenty to suit every taste. Try the renowned Fulling Mill restaurant, in a superbly converted saw mill, for a special evening out. Or, take your pick from the three quirky cinemas; Zeffirelli’s cinema includes a great pizzeria and live jazz bar. Fellinis has an excellent vegetarian restaurant and shows films in a relaxed studio cinema environment. You'll also find a wide range of pubs, serving hearty food and real Lakeland ale - notable for its lake shore setting is the Wateredge Inn. Windermere Lake Cruises depart from Waterhead Pier, just outside Ambleside village centre. The elegant 'steamers' offer regular trips to Bowness and Lakeside - a great way to explore without driving. Evening cruises are also available, sometimes with buffet meals and live music.
