Location
This romantic self-catering cottage in Windermere provides a peaceful yet convenient base; whether you want to relax and soak up Lakeland village life, or explore the wider Lake District National Park by car or by bus. WIndermere is easily reached from the M6, but if you'd prefer not to drive you can also take a train to Windemrere station from Oxenholme, the Lake District.
Windermere village has everything you could need during your Lake District self-catering holiday. You'll find a superb Booths supermarket for stocking up the kitchen, offering a high-class range of local produce as well as everyday favourites. There are several local shops including a traditional butcher, and plenty of options for a lazy breakfast out in the village centre. There are also a few excellent Lakeland pubs in Windermere, where you'll sample the local ale.
A couple of (walkable) miles down the road you'll find the more lively village of Bowness, on Lake Windermere's shores. There you'll find a wider range of shops and attractions, including hire boats, traditional row boats and Windermere Lake Cruises on Tern, Teal and Swan - the famous 'steamers'. There's also the option to take a romantic evening cruise, with buffet meal and live music on board.
If you only choose one Lake District walk during your holiday in Windermere, take a short trek up Orrest Head. The walk begins in the village and offers incredible views over Lake Windermere from the top.
