    “Fantastic view!”

Very cosy living area and a lovely break. However it is very inaccessible and definitely not for the elderly or infirm but to me (age 77) it was well worth the struggle. I would go again.

The property

Approached by a 75 yard pathway on the lower slopes of Loughrigg Fell, this luxury cottage in Clappersgate is well worth the stroll. Gazing out to Lake Windermere and beyond, Ivy Cottage is an enchanting retreat for a couple or family close to the mouth of the Langdale Valley and only a short stroll from Ambleside's vibrant village centre. You'll experience all the magic of traditional Lakeland; pretty latch doors, exposed beams and warming wood burning stove - even a scenic window seat. But with pampering as a priority, the owners have gone to town with under-heated solid oak floors, contemporary bathrooms and plasma TV. Outside, the pretty walled garden is perfect for soaking up the lake views, and keen walkers will be glad to find a path leading directly onto Loughrigg Fell. This property is not suitable for babies or toddlers, and due to the pathway access may not be suitable for the elderly or infirm. == Accommodation in detail Secure parking 75 yards away, with pathway access to the cottage. The traditional Westmorland porch leads to a curved entrance hall. Upstairs to the magnificent, compact first floor living space with lake views, scenic window seating, woodburning stove and bespoke oak/granite kitchen. The master en-suite bedroom is on the entrance level, and a staircase leads down to the cabin twin bedroom with full size single beds and en-suite wet room with double massage shower. Outside, the walled and furnished patio garden offers views to the lake and pathway access directly onto Loughrigg Fell. Please note the pathway from the road to the cottage is unfinished and uneven. Location Clappersgate is a tiny hamlet in the heart of the Lakes, very close to Ambleside and spreading over the banks of the River Brathay. This scenic location is ideal for a walking on Loughrigg, strolling through Brathay Woods or exploring a wide range of routes in the Langdale Valley or surrounding area. You'll find there are a number of excellent country pubs within walking distance, including the acclaimed Drunken Duck Inn and Restaurant for a special occasion. But you're also perfectly placed to walk into Ambleside for your evening meal. Ambleside is a popular Lake District village on the northern shores of Lake Windermere. You'll find a sophisticated high street, retaining its traditional charm and scattered with historic buildings and traditional Lakeland cottages. The village has plenty of quality shops and delicatessens for stocking up the kitchen, and several acclaimed Lake District restaurants including The Glass House. Stroll from Ambleside to Waterhead Pier, and you can take a Windermere Lake Cruise to Bowness and Lakeside. A great way to explore without using a car, and couples will love the romantic evening cruises. From your Clappersgate holiday cottage, touring the wider Lake District is scenic in every direction. Drive south to Hawkshead and Near Sawrey, former home of Beatrix Potter, or north to Rydal Water, historic Grasmere and Keswick.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Due to the access to the cottage this proepry is not suitable for under 4 year olds or the infirm.
