Ambleside is well-stocked with contemporary shops, renowned Lake District restaurants and traditional Lakeland pubs. Stroll from the village centre to Waterhead Pier, and you'll find Windermere Lake steamers provide your scenic route to Bowness and Lakeside. To your west, explore the breathtaking Langdale Valley, renowned for its unspoilt landscapes. Stroll the valley bottom to admire the views or take on the famous Langdale Pikes. There are several excellent country pubs in the valley to complete your day.
Ambleside is a great place to start if you plan to explore the wider Lake District. To your south is picturesque Hawkshead, famously home to the author Beatrix Potter whose home can be visited at Hill Top. Follow the A591 north past Rydal Water, and you'll reach historic Grasmere - a world-famous location for its connections with William Wordsworth.
