“Very clean cottage, spacious and in a great location.”

Stavely is a wonderful village. Perfect cottage for a short stay. Kitchen equipment is adequate but lacks some touches which other cottages offer. Narrow staircase to upstairs and low beam to be careful of if you are tall.

The property

Nestled along a short terrace within the conservation area of this quiet, Lakeland village, that Dorothy Wordsworth considered to be a place she dearly loved to think of, Mulberry Cottage provides a most welcome retreat and holiday destination within this traditional community where you'll find the butchers, the bakers and yes, even a candlestick maker and is ideal for the smaller party, be it a couple, small family and your dog. Easy access to the busier resorts of Windermere and Bowness is readily available by way of a short train journey from the village station or open top bus ride, both just a short stroll from the door of the cottage. The Dales Way walkers amongst you will appreciate what's referred to as one of the best section of the route whilst outdoor enthusiasts will revel in the numerous 'on the doorstep' opportunities to explore the beautiful Kentmere Valley. The level streets of Staveley are lined with an interesting selection of artisan crafts, art galleries, coffee shops and hostelries and at the very heart of this thriving village lies the remains of a medieval church, now a clock tower and listed building Food lovers will delight in Staveley's exceptional culinary offering from an award winning chippy to the establishments located in the Mill Yard; home to More? Artisan Bakery, the popular walker's café 'Wilf's' and the award winning Hawkshead Brewery and Beer Hall where you'll often find live music evening in the main bar area. Mulberry Cottage offers very comfortable, open plan living to the ground floor with deep cushioned sofas arranged around a warming multi fuel stove, facilities to include colour TV, DVD, CD hifi and of course, that all important WiFi access. The kitchen dining room offers breakfast bar seating but a traditional dining table is also provided for more formal dinners, the kitchen offering an electric oven and hob, washer/drier, fridge, freezer and microwave. The first floor accommodation offers a spacious kingsize bedroom with solid pine furnishings, colour TV and window seating and a further single bedroom to the rear. Both bedrooms share a rather neat and ingeniously designed shower room with cubicle, handbasin and wc. Outside, strategically placed bench seating, big enough for two is just the spot to perch and enjoy a cuppa whilst reading the Sunday papers. There is roadside parking readily available directly outside the property and further on street parking nearby.

About the location

KENDAL

Windermere 8 miles.

A historic market town with a fine reputation for shopping, Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent and is known as the Southern Gateway to the Lakes. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Visit The Abbot Hall Art Gallery, its regular collection holding portraits by Kendal born George Romney and works by Turner and Ruskin, with other exhibitions through its links with the Tate. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay. Kendal itself is ideally placed for exploring South Lakeland, the Yorkshire Dales and beyond. With other attractions such as Kendal Museum and the Museum of Lakeland Life, the fascinating Quaker Tapestry, Lake Windermere and the wider National Park within easy reach, Kendal provides a superb base for a relaxing break.
