“This is a very comfortable cottage in a stunning location.”

It has the best views of any cottage we have stayed in . This is our second visit to this property. The only problem on this occasion was the cottage had not been properly cleaned prior to our arrival. There was breakfast cereal and some string on the carpets. Upstairs were five dead flies on the carpet and bedding. There was some hair in one of the showers. The kitchen was clean and tidy and otherwise the property was in good order. I would not let this put you off staying in this cottage as it is brilliant otherwise but the cleaning service used needs to be reviewed.

The property

If you're looking for a Lakeland character property in a world-renowned location, at the heart of the Lakes and immersed in the landscapes that have inspired artists and poets for hundreds of years, then Pavement End Cottage will leave you enchanted. A detached superbly located cottage with breathtaking unforgettable views over Grasmere Water itself. Inside the atmosphere is homely but indulgent; sumptuous fabrics and furnishings, those wonderful views from every single window, two living rooms, a conservatory, a very well equipped kitchen and ground floor cloakroom and then upstairs to the three en-suite bedrooms, all with magnificent views. The patio garden also boasts the lake views and all this only a few hundred yards from the heart of Grasmere village centre. == Accommodation in detail Private parking for two cars or three small cars located right next to your detached lakeside cottage; wander through the patio garden to an entrance porch. Entrance into a superb living room with bay windows and sumptuous leather furnishings. The second living room has a wonderful picture window complete with window seat overlooking Grasmere Water and this room extends into a dining area with viewing balcony. From here you can gain access into the conservatory also boasting the stunning scenery. The kitchen is very well equipped and has access to the patio / garden as well as having a ground floor WC / wash basin. Upstairs to the three bedrooms, the master king size with en-suite bathroom having bath and separate shower cubicle; the double bedroom gazes over Grasmere Water and also has en-suite shower room and then the single bedroom which also provides an en-suite shower room has a clever single bed which can extend into a double bed for occassional use.Location At the very heart of the Lake District National Park, Grasmere is an adorable Lakeland village with ample facilities for self-catering breaks - including some excellent pubs and restaurants. It's full of Lake District charm and character and also steeped with artistic history; William Wordsworth lived here in Dove Cottage (open to the public) during one of his most productive periods as a poet. Local painters have also long been inspired, and several watercolour galleries exhibit in the village including the renowned Heaton Cooper Studio. This fascinating village is a great place to base your self-catering holiday. On lazier days, explore the quaint village centre or take a peaceful riverside walk. Nearby Rydal Water is a particular joy. If you're looking to hit the fells and explore secluded tarns, you're in the right place. A manageable hike leads up to Easedale Tarn, amidst fells above the village. Serious walkers might attempt Fairfield, Silver How, Helm Crag and Loughrigg; all within easy reach. A starting point for Helvellyn is only a short drive up the road at Thirlmere.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
