Esthwaite Water is located between the larger lakes of Windermere and Coniston. Compared to these busier tourist destinations, Esthwaite Water is untouched and peaceful. Hawkshead village is just to the north of Esthwaite Water. The car-free village centre is a delight to explore, scattered with pretty traditional Lakeland cottages and several interesting historic attractions.
While you can find tasty treats and food essentials in Hawkshead village, for a proper shop you might head east to Lake Windermere and cross the lake on the car-ferry to go shopping in Bowness. Alternatively, Ambleside is only a short drive away with an even wider range of shops and restaurants.
In Near Sawrey close by, you can visit the former home of Beatrix Potter at Hill Top - open to the public by the National Trust. Kids will love the magic of holidaying in Miss Potter's beloved landscapes!
