The area is a cyclist's paradise and Smithy Cottage can offer secure bicycle storage. The landscapes are scattered with country homes and rural Lake District cottages, as well as the choice of several acclaimed Lake District country pubs. On the shores of Lake Windermere, Bowness is a sophisticated Lakeland village with a wealth to explore and enjoy and only a short drive from this cottage. Stroll to the lake shore to hire a row boat or power boat, or take an elegant cruise on one of the Lake Windermere steamers. Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly to Ambleside and Lakeside; a wonderful way to explore without even using your car.
