Accommodation in detail
Stable End is one of a pair of cottages that have been converted from a traditional Lakeland bank barn. Such barns are commonly built on a slope and are accessible from two sides; to the front on the ground floor and to the rear on the first floor. This gives the cottage a quirky layout with the living accommodation in the middle of the property with one bedroom and bathroom above and two bedrooms and a bathroom below.
On entering the cottage from the cottage from the courtyard patio a few steps lead up to the kitchen and sitting room. The cosy sitting room is well presented with a welcoming corner sofa, comfortable armchair, Smart TV and family dining table with pretty views across the valley. The spacious kitchen shares the views of the Rusland Valley and is well appointed with electric hob and oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.
On the top floor the spacious master bedroom is bright and airy with high ceilings and finished with a super king bed (that can also be presented as twin beds – please specify on booking) and is complemented by a luxurious bathroom with feature freestanding bath, walk in shower, basin and WC.
On the lower ground floor there are two further bedrooms; the first with a super king bed (that can also be presented as twin beds – please specify on booking) and the second is a pretty single bedroom. These two bedrooms share a family shower room with walk in shower, basin and WC
To the rear of the property there is a sheltered courtyard patio with outdoor dining table, ideal for a summers evening and private parking for two cars.
Stable End enjoys a peaceful, picturesque location between the lakes of Coniston and Windermere, just south of Hawkshead village. The sleepy hamlet is surrounded by a natural playground of stunning landscapes to explore; a great base for walking, biking and outdoor adventure as well as for escaping the everyday rush.
On your doorstep is Grizedale Forest which has an intriguing network of walking routes, cycle paths and sculpture trails, great for children of all ages. Also located here is Go Ape zip wires for a fun for all the family day out. Lake Windermere lies to the east, and a car-ferry crossing can take you across the lake to explore the lively attractions of Bowness village.
Also close by is the village of Near Sawrey, where Beatrix Potter famously lived and was inspired to write her children's stories. Visit the author's home at Hill Top and explore her favourite places; such as Esthwaite Water and Moss Eccles Tarn.
Hawkshead village itself is easily reached to your north around 4 miles from the property; a charming historic village of whitewashed Lakeland cottages, car-free cobbled streets and interesting local shops. You can stock up the kitchen there, or drive just a few miles further on to Ambleside or nearby Coniston.
