Set in the beautiful scenery of the Lyth Valley and a few minutes’ walk from the picturesque village of Crosthwaite, Starnthwaite was once a bustling hive of industry as one of many bobbin mills that could be found across the Lake District. Now redeveloped in to a number of luxury apartments, the penthouse, christened The Bobbin Loft offers light, comfortable and luxurious accommodation.
Taking full advantage of its second floor location, The Bobbin Loft offers beautiful views in every direction across pastoral countryside, the Gilpin River and neighbouring woodland, all of which is a haven for wildlife. Paying particular attention to quality and detail, the owners have created a fantastic retreat whatever the time of year.
The property is conveniently located within the Lake District National Park and offers easy access to the popular tourist villages of Bowness and Windermere and the historic market town of Kendal. Equally accessible is the renowned “foodie” destination of Cartmel, home to the Sticky Toffee Pudding and the acclaimed and Michelin award winning L'Enclume (Named as Britain's best restaurant in 2016 for the fourth year in succession). There are fantastic walks from the door, the popular Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite (named Cumbria's dining pub of the year for the past 2 years) is just a fifteen minute ramble away, and there are several other excellent pubs within a five minute drive. The Bobbin Loft offers high quality accommodation in a great location.
Accommodation in detail
From the front door a communal stairway leads to the top floor penthouse where the front door opens to a large inner hallway with plenty of space for coats and boots. The hallway leads to a spacious dual aspect lounge with vaulted ceiling and feature windows overlooking the surrounding countryside. Two comfortable sofas are arranged around the feature fireplace with electric flame effect fire and smart TV. A raised dining table offers the ideal place for a dinner with friends or breakfast with the family.
The spacious kitchen is bright and airy and equipped to a very high standard with everything you could need, with induction hob, electric oven, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier and microwave. A generous breakfast bar is the ideal place to relax with a glass of wine so no one feels left out as they prepare dinner!
Returning to the hallway there are two bedrooms to choose from. The master bedroom has a fantastic super king bed, fitted wardrobes, TV and views to the countryside. This is complemented with a luxurious ensuite shower room. The second bedroom offers twin beds, is well furnished and, again, has views to the countryside and the river.
Outside there are communal grounds and gardens to be explored but there is an open watercourse, the old mill race so families with children should exercise care. The property offers a convenient car park with unallocated parking for one car and there is usually space for an occasional second car.
Due to the position of the penthouse within the property the owners regret that they are unable to accept pets.
This fabulous self-catering property in the Lyth Valley takes you away from busier Lake District holiday locations, and into a divine rural landscape all of your own that has been included by Lonely Planet in its list of “the most beautiful places on earth”.
The Lyth Valley lies behind Cartmel Fell to the east of Lake Windermere. The valley is known for its serene agricultural landscapes, its vibrant damson blossom (and harvest – look out for locally made damson jam and damson gin from the valley in the local artisan food and farm shops) in spring, and its widely-acclaimed Lake District gastropubs including The Lyth Valley Hotel, The Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank and Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge. The award winning Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite, with its excellent bar and serving fine local produce is a fifteen minute walk away.
The unspoilt medieval village of Cartmel, situated in a quiet valley in one of England's most outstanding areas of natural beauty on the fringe of the Lake District National Park is only a twenty minute drive from The Bobbin Loft.
Offering stunning views of the South Lakeland District fells and countryside, Cartmel has grown up around its famous 12th Century medieval Priory Church. It is a special place where ancient history and tradition mingle effortlessly with the present day.
Although steeped in history, Cartmel is not trapped in time and the village offers today's visitors many modern surprises in the form of fine quality attractions, shops, a wide variety of traditional Lakeland inns and cutting edge gourmet restaurants including the internationally acclaimed Michelin Star restaurant, L'Enclume. Around the village square you will discover a delightful assortment of genuine 16th - 18th century buildings.
All this and the famous Cartmel racecourse providing national hunt racing in its most original format is just off the centre of the village square. With its party crowds and funfair, Cartmel rekindles the social gathering tradition of the original steeple-to-steeple chases.
Lake Windermere itself and the historic car ferry, which provides easy access to the heart of the Lakes and offers a delightfully enjoyable route to Sawrey, where Hill Top the former home of Beatrix Potter can be visited is a pleasant 15 minute drive along quiet country lanes.
The Bobbin Loft offers a perfect getaway from it all in this beautiful, tranquil and un-spoilt corner of the Lake District. For peace, quiet and excellent dining options it is ideal.
