A private lane leads past two traditional stone houses to your cottage where you park your car and walk through the garden with gently flowing stream to your front door. Opening into a glorious open plan living space with beamed ceiling, and original exposed stone wall. Picture windows look out over your garden to the magnificent fells. Comfortable furnishings and the woodburning stove; what a great place to relax and admire the views. This living space is open to the well equipped kitchen and dining area. Two steps lead from the living area to the bedroom with king size bed and picture postcard views.
Off the bedroom is the separate modern bathroom with power shower over the bath. An open staircase leads from the bedroom to the attic 'Map Room', a pretty loft space with more space to spread out as well as having a second WC / wash basin. The walls have maps of the local area, a perfect place from which to plan the day ahead. Outside there is a pretty enclosed garden with patio and furniture that is perfect for al-fresco living. There is a further 'secret' garden through a gate with 360 views of the surrounding mountains; here you have a lawn and summer house with second terraced patio, all facing south and ideal for lazy days or pre-dinner drinks. The summer house is lockable and ideal for storing bikes etc and if bringing items to secure please also bring your own padlock and chain. Red squirrels and a rich variety of birds are regular visitors to the gardens.
Location
Nestled in the very heart of the Lakes, Grasmere is a lovely place for a romantic break in peaceful surroundings. With the views beginning at home, you'll be tempted to take on such famous Lake District walks as Silver How, Lang How and Helm Crag. Rising behind the property is the impressive 'Fairfield Horseshoe' - keen walkers will be spoilt for choice.
But a holiday property in Grasmere isn't just a dream for walkers. This historic Lake District village is famed for its connections with the poet William Wordsworth, who lived in the village at Dove Cottage - now owned by the National Trust and open to the public as part of the Wordsworth Museum. Artists will enjoy browsing several watercolour galleries in Grasmere, particularly the Heaton Cooper Studio which displays the Cooper family's famous work as well as that of inspired local artists.
The village centre has all the facilities you'll need during your self-catering holiday in the heart of the Lakes. From local shops and supermarket to quaint tea rooms and acclaimed restaurants - the Good Food Guide- listed Jumble Room is a treat for a special occasion. For touring by car or exploring the Lakes, the A591 leads you effortlessly south past Rydal Water to Ambleside on the northern shore of Lake Windermere, or north to Keswick and Derwent Water. Also easily found to your south are the breathtaking Langdale Valley and the Lake District's third largest lake, Coniston.
