Location
Chapel Stile is a delightful village nestled in the famous Langdale Valley, which is home to some of the most impressive scenery in the Lake District. A natural choice for a walking or climbing holiday, the valley offers everything from easy strolls in stunning surroundings, to challenging hikes high into the world famous Langdale Pikes.
Even though it is only a convenient 4 miles from vibrant and bustling Ambleside as well as the shores of Lake Windermere, Chapel Stile is immersed in peaceful, untouched, landscapes. But at Ambleside you'll be able to take advantage of the shops and supermarket to stock up for self-catering, browse sophisticated shops and clothing boutiques as well as plenty of expert outdoor shops. The tourist information centre is a good place for information on walks and routes, or maybe you'd like to laze in one of the cafes or visit the roman fort? Don't forget, lake cruises also depart from Ambleside to Bowness and Lakeside - a great way to explore amidst fabulous scenery without driving too far at all.
A wide range of other excellent Lake District country pubs are scattered throughout the area, serving locally brewed ale and hearty food. The Glass House in Ambleside and the famous Drunken Duck Inn and Restaurant in Outgate are both highly recommended. This is a wonderful place to experience the best of the Lake District, and also the hidden gems lying off the beaten path. Enjoy!
