Accommodation in detail
The front door opens directly to the open plan living accommodation. Relax in the sumptuous corner sofa in front of the cosy and welcoming log burning stove (and help yourself to the complimentary fuel that the owner has provided). The quality kitchen is well equipped with electric hob and oven, fridge, freezer microwave and washing machine. The room is finished with a family dining table which is ideal for a romantic dinner for two or a social meal with friends.
The Lodge offers a welcoming double bedroom and a smart family bathroom with small bath, shower cubicle, basin and WC.
Stepping outside there is a fantastic hot tub where you can relax and unwind after a day on the fells or out exploring the mountain bike trails of the neighbouring Grizedale Forest. Rising above the cottage the owners have created an elevated patio with bistro garden furniture that offers beautiful views across the valley. Sit quietly here in the evening as the day draws to a close and you may catch glimpses of the herd of Red Deer that make the valley their home.
Private parking is available for two cars and there is a lockable store ideal for mountain bikes and other outdoor gear. The owners welcome one medium size dogs at The Lodge but respectfully point out that due to the proximity of livestock all dogs must be kept under close control at all times
Just a few minutes from the village of Bouth at the foot of the Rusland Valley and just a short distance from the very southern tip of Lake Windermere there is beautiful corner of the Lake District offers something for everyone. A short distance further up the valley and you enter Grizedale Forest with miles of footpaths and mountain bike trails waiting to be explore, Gummers Howe and High Dam are two of the most popular Lakeland walks and both are found just a few minutes drive from the cottage.
For those looking for high level thrills, choose from the breathaking Coniston Fells to the east or head north into the central Lake District to access a myriad of mountain walks for all ages and of all standards.
This unspoilt medieval village of Cartmel is situated in a quiet valley in one of England's most outstanding areas of natural beauty on the fringe of the Lake District National Park is only a ten minute drive from the cottage.
Offering stunning views of the South Lakeland District fells and countryside, Cartmel has grown up around its famous 12th Century medieval Priory Church. It is a special place where ancient history and tradition mingle effortlessly with the present day.
Although steeped in history, Cartmel is not trapped in time and the village offers today's visitors many modern surprises in the form of fine quality attractions, shops, a wide variety of traditional Lakeland inns and cutting edge gourmet restaurants including the internationally acclaimed Michelin Star restaurant, L'Enclume. Around the village square you will discover a delightful assortment of genuine 16th - 18th century buildings.
All this and the famous Cartmel racecourse providing national hunt racing in its most original format is just off the centre of the village square. With its party crowds and funfair, Cartmel rekindles the social gathering tradition of the original steeple to steeple chases.
