The property is found within the small hamlet of Clappersgate, just to the west of Ambleside village and on the way to the Langdale Valley. Only a 10-15 minutes' walk away, Ambleside is historic and attractive. The popular village and has grown to become one of the Lake District's most sophisticated communities without losing its traditional charm. Excellent cafes, quality shops and boutiques, acclaimed Lake District restaurants and even two interesting cinema venues form part of the village centre, which is also home to a Roman fort and many interesting historic buildings.
For a picturesque cruise on Lake Windermere (a must during your stay!), wander to Waterhead Pier just outside Ambleside village centre. From there, traditional 'steamers' depart regularly to Bowness and Lakeside. In summer, evening cruises are also available with live music and dining!
Clappersgate also takes a divine location for those in the Lakes to walk and explore wilder landscapes. A walk or short drive leads to the Langdale Valley, renowned for its dramatic scenery and remote feel. Coniston Water and numerous renowned hikes are also easily reached.
There are many excellent country pubs in the areas surrounding Clappersgate and Ambleside. We recommend making the most of the Drunken Duck Inn; one of the Lake District's finest pub restaurants and within enviably easy reach of Todd Crag House.
