In search of some peace and quiet? You will find it in abundance amongst the craggy hilltops and patchwork fields of the pretty Troutbeck valley, enjoyed from one of our beautiful Troutbeck holiday cottages.

Midway between Ambleside and Windermere, in the valley between Wansfell and Applethwaite Common and following the river Trout Beck to Lake Windermere, is the pretty village of Troutbeck; one of the Lake District’s most popular, rural holiday spots.

Why Troutbeck Holiday Cottages

Troutbeck, in South Lakeland, is made up of a collection of tiny hamlets. It features a couple of pubs, a church, a village institute, a village shop and a tearoom. There is also a mobile post office, visiting twice a week, perfect for sending postcards home!

Primarily farm and woodland, scattered with farm buildings, cottages and larger houses, almost all of the properties in Troutbeck are 100 years old or more, with many 300+ years old. Most of the village is now a conservation area with many buildings either listed or belonging to the National Trust.

This makes Troutbeck a very sought-after area of the Lakes, which has inspired so many artists. The village is easily accessed on foot, via footpaths and bridleways. There are three buses a day, during the summer tourist season, but outside of these, you will need to rely on cars, taxis or walking to get you to and from the surrounding towns and villages.

Places to Visit from Troutbeck Cottages

Troutbeck, nestled in the heart of the Lake District, offers a gateway to a myriad of captivating destinations. Explore the iconic Lake Windermere, where water activities and scenic boat trips await. Venture to Ambleside, a charming town with historic sites and vibrant shops.

Discover the picturesque village of Grasmere, known for its literary heritage and stunning landscapes. Visit the bustling market town of Keswick, surrounded by breathtaking mountains and the serene Derwentwater.

Troutbeck provides access to the enchanting landscapes of the Lake District National Park, offering a perfect starting point for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and outdoor adventurers. Whether you seek serene lakeshores, challenging hikes, or cultural experiences, Troutbeck opens the door to a world of exploration and relaxation.
