Standing on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere; Bowness village brims with quirky shops, boating activities, cafes, restaurants and handy supermarkets. The 3-screen Royalty Cinema and the Old Laundry Theatre provide plenty of evening entertainment... as do the fantastic selection of traditional pubs and contemporary bars.
There are endless activities on and around Lake Windermere, from sailing and rowing, to cycling and walking. From Bowness Pier the Windermere Lake Cruises steamers take picturesque trips to Ambleside and Lakeside - a great way to explore car-free. Also only a couple of miles outside Bowness village is the prestigious Windermere Golf Club.
Keen hikers will find plenty to tempt them in the areas surrounding Bowness. Head up Gummers How for some of the best views of the lake and National Park, or take the car ferry across to Hawkshead to explore Grizedale Forest and the spectacular surrounding area. The forest offers good walking, cycling and entertaining sculpture trails.
